Exclamation PC Music: Endangered Species

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html
This document states that poachers like Microsoft, Intel, IBM, HP and AMD are planning to regulate and even delete audio files from the owner's PC, and have the ability to do it NOW. It even mentions grid locking how many times a purchased CD can be played. I'm just spreading the word to protect music collections residing in endangered (Microsoft) habitats. I definitely know that I don't want any Silicon Scalawags fooling around with My Tunes.
As of now it seems that running on older operating systems and refraining from upgrades will prevent the slaughter.

Mother told me I should've got a MAC.

Probably a good idea to burn your music files onto CD's.

Try it again deleting the period on the very end. It will go through then.

As I understand the law, you are allowed to burn CDs for personal use. Frankly downlaoders can bite it, if they didn't pay for it, it should be hard to get.

Burning CDs is also good for holding large amounts of data that could not be split up on several floppys, such as slideshows conaining graphics, animation, & audio.
Every PC does not have a CD writer, so if such a presentation were stored on a vunerable system the omnivorous would destroy it.

Exactly...how are the talented artists out there supposed to make money if no-one has to pay for their stuff.

We certainly wouldn't have the Floyd if the Internet existed today.

I do hate the way music companies continously harp on about downloading music being like theft.

I have downloaded a relitiley small number of songs (less than ten, I'd say) and I have bought or am going to buy every album that those songs come from. They should look upon the internet as a great chance to advertise.

i use downloading as a sampler.. if someone tells me something is good and i should get the album I sample by downloading and if I like I go out and buy... hence I'm actually giving that person money by doing so. I think they should shut down ppl's downloads if they have downloaded more than a certain number of songs by the one artist

cheers

Yes, Sydney, I do the same thing. I'd never have heard many of the artists whose CDs I now own if not for WinMX.

While reading a bio on a extraordinary musician, he stated the group that inspired him. Never having heard of them I downloaded a song out of curiosity. I have purchased five of their CDs since.

I meant for the topic to be more on subject of invasion of privacy, not about individuals who abuse the copyrights of recording artists (and I'm sure they abound).

the net does have some great uses, it gives a lot of exposure to music that otherwise i would hear at all, or have to spend loads (hundreds of dollars) of money buying. (money that i do not have..) however, if i had money, i would buy all the cds i could. its much more satisfying to collect them, than files. once i have money, ill buy more cds. anyway, what im trying to say is, the net's massive musical resources do have a place, and they dont stop me from buying music. in fact, without hearing stuff online first, i probably wouldnt even buy anything, except what i saw on mtv. (which, need i add, is crap.) floyd, zep, radiohead, i learned of these groups online, and i still wish to buy all their albums i can.
