I didn't watch one episode of it. I really didn't want to hear people singing like pop stars, much less seeing them being judged on who was the "best." I don't think Kelly Clarkson will have a very long career. While most people fought their way to the top (yeah, to become a pop star, I guess it's some people's goals, unfortunately), and she just won a contest. People don't like to see others take a shortcut instead of doing it the real way, so I think that's her weakness.

Hey, anyone that can duplicate Mariah Carey should have a career. American Idol, I believe, is what inspired me to start the Guilty Pleasures thread, haha. I like the competition aspect of it, and take part so that the right one wins!

I really don't like pop music, and I don't like pop idol even more. Yet for some reason, I seem to watch it every single week.

pop of course has its fun merits.. as does the Idol series and it's damn addictive.. I actually like the new Kelly Clarkson song whatever it's called, I like it. She'll be performing at our voting show tonight actually. The Idol people I think will actually have a long career than the people in those popstars shows cos that was a crock of shit and didn't involve the public voting too plus there's no band to break up with and they're getting some of the world's top producers, a hard combo to beat. Also with idol it reall is about voice and not a lot of other things, take a look at Kelly Clarkson she's no Kylie when it comes to body size ( not saying that she's fat, she's perfect in fact) In our comp in our final 12 we had an overweight pig farmer, it was def about the voice with him and with our last 40 we had a transvestite. Also we have a rock chick in ours (although god knows she sucks she's still in it, not all about your classic defenition of pop you see)
I'm ashamed to say, though, that I too waste my money and take part in the voting but god damn I want my favourite to be it.. speaking of my fave here's a link to who it is

I must say that I watched it last season. At first, I wanted to just watch it in the beginning to see all the horrible, funny ones, but I got attached to all the winners. I didn't vote though.

it's addictive, you really start caring about who wins.. as for the all the shitty people, that is an absolute laugh. We had this one show called "the mad, the bad and the ugly" ... that should give you an idea

cheers

it's just an another way for d big tv n record execs to squeeze more cash outta kids, or kids parent's wallets. let's face it, most of em are talentless, so we laugh at them, it has that car crash tv factor. i come from the island of plastic boy/girl/children pop band crap, and it's always the same. some shmuck wins it, the record & tv company pumps a couple of mill into making them the next big thing, they make a killing, the shmuck gets little or nothing, and ends up flippin burgers after desperately trying to somehow get a new deal with anybody when no-one will touch him/her/them.
Quite frankly, those shows make me want to vomit...
