Improvisation Floyd/the Doors question

One of my favorite things about the Doors is Morrisons improv, poetry. The End, for example sounds completely different every time it was done, lyrically and musically altered.
Not knowing much at all about Floyd(other than the music and poetry is amazing) but are the live versions of songs"different"? Do they ever really change the style of the song...lyrically or instramentally. If so, is there an example of this someone might mention. Thank you, and I look so forward to meeting the interesting and kind people on this board. Very nice and helpful, you Floyd folk are! regards Offsmack

Re: Improvisation Floyd/the Doors question

Pink Floyd played the songs Sheep and Dogs (off Animals) around 2 years before they were released as "Raving and Drooling, and "You've Gotta Be Crazy," respectively. Pink Floyd also played early versions of Dark Side of the Moon, as Eclipse (A Piece for Assorted Lunatics). All these are live.

Re: Improvisation Floyd/the Doors question

interesting, thank you. I am going to have to find these examples and listen. I guess what i am getting at, is why do some of you have numerous cd's from the same tour...the same year.? It must be that each show is truely unique unto itself, having only heard studio Floyd, and an old Darkside of the Moon live tape, my "experience" with this remarkable band is thin, but asking questions and listening should open whole new catacombs of WISDOM! jdm. Peace from the Pacific Northwest!

Re: Improvisation Floyd/the Doors question

I have been on a mission of late with getting bootlegs and one think to remember with the Floyd is that many albums were written, rehearsed, altered and chaged signifcantly in live performances. Of course now with the quality of bootlegs you can't do that. Here is an example.

Dark Side of the moon and 2 major changes
Great Gig In The Sky was originally called the Mortality Sequence and was very different and also On The Run was a long jam session.

Songs from Animals were beeing played back in '74 as mentioned in the posts and also I have some demos of the Wall which are very different indeed.

Floyd is great at this, many songs were played differently to begin with and evolved over time, and it is nice to see this progression on the bootlegged albums.
