I maintain that their best era live is 1970-71. They used to play amazing things, even better than what is documented on Pompeii. Some performances are actually mind blowing.

Re: Poll:Favouriite PF Bootleg eras/Tours

I Share your Exact Opinion, mad yannis,
Except that I think that POMPEII qualifies for the same level.
However, I'm open for all opinions.
Please come and vote everybody!

I See Mad Yannis That you're from Italy.

Do you listen to PFM? My Favourite PFM Album currently is Storia Di Un Minuto.

I have a fair collection of Itallian progressive rock music.

I would like to chat with you about it, if you like?

if you're Intersted in the latter subject, please send me a private message or reach me via ICQ or MSN messenger.
I would also like to chat with you
about Floyd Shows from our favourite era.

Yoav.

Re: Poll:Favouriite PF Bootleg eras/Tours

I only have a few RoIO's, they are mostly in the 1977 and 1971 range, so I voted for those two eras.

One example, IMO, the "Atom Heart Mother Suite" is better on the RoIO's than on the official studio release.

"Recording of Illegal/Illegitimate Origin"
P.S. It's a good question. I had to ask once too.

Re: Poll:Favouriite PF Bootleg eras/Tours

Thanks. Now I know what the intrigue is about.
I've never ejoyed a live Floyd recording from any origin before.
Are enough Ill/Ill's in circulation to attain one?

Re: Poll:Favouriite PF Bootleg eras/Tours

I chose 1968-1973. I know that's a large bracket, but all of the RoIOs I've heard that I like the most come from that time. My absolute favorite is from 1969 (Amsterdam, The Man and the Journey). Fine keyboard work there, on every song! A few dodgy vocals (especially The Narrow Way--hard to believe Mr. Gilmour was capable of singing so off-key!), but the instrument work is all in great form. I also like other recordings I've heard from this period...at this time I think they felt freer to improvise, and that gives every recording a special flair that I greatly appreciate.

I was surprised how sloppy some of the vocals are on the '77 bootlegs. But it adds to the charm, for me. The other phases of the performances are awesome, however.

Re: Poll:Favouriite PF Bootleg eras/Tours

I think one reason for this may be that Roger Waters is at least somewhat tone-deaf (he seems to be--I heard him do an acoustic demo of Bravery of Being Out of Range, and the time it took him to realize he was way off key makes me think he's probably tone-deaf). Which I'm sure then made it an absolute nightmare for Mr. Gilmour to try to sing harmony, as well.

I was blown away by the '72 Japan composition, the first and only one of that type I have ever heard. After that I wanted to find more, but how would one select or even know what to choose in this treasure hunt. Would the city and/or year of performance be the apparition desired according to your A piacere? Or would one go by their favorite album titles?

Actually, It's "Recording of Illegitimate/Indeterminate Origin"!

and I do Take the difference Seriously.

While it is Quite Legal to Trade or To Share RoIO's, It's Definitely Unlegal and considered Unethiqal in every Traders community to selll CDR Copies of them!
As For Original Silvers, Selling is a different story, and much more complicated.
Plus, Not every RoIO has ever existed On silver disc.
It is recommened that you obtain a few copies, compose a tradelist, and trade CDR copies with a burner and colour printer for artwork, sending the disks/music files either via Snailmail or fast Connection.
There is also the possibilty of Weeding.

when you seek for RoIO's, and are not sure, check for the sound source and quality, and for the setlist. Venue and Date are important so you might Not get Duplicates Unless you wish to (Different versions of the same show).

here are some recommendations To start with:

KQED (Audio) - TV Studios, San Francisco, California, U.S.A. , April The 29th 1970. (second show out of two shows made on this date.)

BBC ARCHIVES 1970-1971 HARVESTED DEFINITIVE EDITION - John Peel Sessions, BBC Radio One, Paris Cinema, London,England., July The 16th 1970 & September the 30th 1971

Atom Heart Mother Goes on the Road - September the 16th 1970 & October the 12th 1971, Paris Theatre, London. A MUST!

Smoking Blues - Mountreux Casino, Mountreux, Switzerland, November the 21st 1970. A MUST!

Secrets – Paris Theatre London, UK, October the 3rd 1971.A MUST!

Live at Pompeii - There are countless versions of this RoIO, from Mnay labels, with different setllists and additions.
I have two of them:
one is the "Live In Pompeii, Remains",
which has the POMPEII tracks from October the 4th 1971 Plus the newly discovered "ONE OF THESE DAYS" Demos.
The second is Pompeii,Head label which has Pompeii Plus The film Tracks from the DSOTM Sessions.

I recommend them Both.
Of course, the POMPEII RoIO is also A Must (even if you have the Video/DVD).

Animals Tour Debut – January The 23rd 1977, Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, West Germany. I recommend it for the excellent performance of the entitre WYWH Album on the 2nd CD. It also have Animals Material of course.
Just note that The SONG WYWH was never Perfromed ON the WYWH Tour...

Yoav.
