Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

If you both have Napster, it is still relatively easy to share your tracks, as long as you know the other person and arrange it. Just change the name of the track to something completely irrelevant and isn't the name of the song and tell the other person and then they can download that off of you. Also, I have Primus performing In the Flesh?, Have a Cigar, and Pigs on the Wing.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

My favourite would have to be "Wish You Were Here" I love "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" I hope that the band would someday release the original recording in it's entirety, PT.I-IX

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I would actually like to see "Shine On you Crazy Diamond" separated into tracks- so we can skip around and feel each one.

Maybe in a greatest hits though - not a rerelease of WYWH.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

For the 1st time, I'll have to disagree with
charade I am.
One of the things that makes WYWH so unique is that sometimes you can't tell when a track ends and the following track begins, which makes them merge into each other, and make the album into one unit, musical composition, a Progressive rock masterpiece.
You can't utterly devide those parts, especially those sub-parts of Shine on you Crazy Diamond, It would like be cutting off the musical piece's hands and legs,If it had ones.or in other words, eliminating the effect created by listening to this album. existing as unnatural segments, it will be no longer the album we love and Cherish.

AS for the rereleases, I don't think the fans have the patience nor the money for a thousand and one Dumb releseases which deliver allmost nothing, but I also think that by collecting Rare live Shows, A fan can rediscover the band in a new kind of way,
and explore it, find out new things and remembering old things, in a way he couldn't otherwhys.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I have always found my favorite album to be Meddle. That album always seemed to be so alive and moving into the next time. I can almost visualize the boys working on it in the studio and writing the music for it. With the begging coming at you with all that bass and ending with Echoes, just seems like one of their best.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I knew most of you would disagree.
(Hey there's a first for all of us _Archer!)

But certainly i don't want this to happen in a re-release of the actual "Wish You Were Here" album - i would want them to keep it the same.

But if they were to release "Shine on..." on a greatest hits album - i think it would be neat and certainly very interesting to hear them by themselves.

And whenever i Think of Progressive Rock i think of that song "Shine on..." aswell! I was actually just thinking about that!

Macjr14, I see your generally new here. And it's great that your voicing your opinion about Meddle, but please do so either in A. a topic that's at that point about Meddle or B. a new topic.

'cause here we're talking about Wish You Were Here - and we'd like to here every one's views on IT.

Thanks,
Patrick

Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

Yes, well, anyway- I'd have to agree with Archer on this one(for once),that the beauty of (then) Floyd is that in some cases you don't totally know where each song stops or starts. I used to think that Any colour you like, when I only had a shit tape copy, was a continuation of Us and them, believing that it was there to highlight "the old man dying".

I was smoking a fair bit at that point, so I guess my brain was more, um, susceptible to the concept of,um ,concepts.

Hmm.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

Hmmm... Wish You Were Here, eh?

I haven't got any strong or overarching views about this album except to say that amongst most of the rest of them, it is one of my faves. Hell, from Obscured... to The Wall, I'd be hard pressed to name my all-time favourite.

As mentioned earlier, there was an Open University programme highlighting the fact that a university in the north of England has a music degree course which studies Shine On (WYWH) in some depth, concentrating on the exceptionally lengthy intro.

Their conclusion that only PF could make such a long introduction work so impressively was gratifying indeed, for this staunch Floyd enthusiast.

Just thought...you'd like to know.

Byron

p.s. Why, oh why can I not proofread my posts before submitting them; I seem always to have to edit them afterwards. D'OH!

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

Like Bride of a Bull, I would struggle to name my favourite Floyd album. If pushed, I guess it would have to be DSOTM.

WYWH is awesome and the track Wish You Were Here is certainly one of their loveliest songs.

But, isn't the concept or message behind the album as a whole rather self-indulgant ???

The wonderful thing about DSOTM, Animals, Final Cut and even The Wall is that anyone who cares to think about the words will receive some pretty powerful messages that we should all be able to relate to.

Am I taking this all too seriously ????

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

Wish You Were Here is an incredible album. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is probably their most beautiful song, next to Echoes. The intro is so entrancing that it doesn't really seem like 8 minutes when you listen to it. The guitar work on it is incredible. The song is quite indescribable.

I must agree with Charade though that it would be interesting to here the different parts of Shine On on their own. I'm not saying I would rather it be that way, but it would be interesting to explore the song more.

As for the fellow talking about Meddle, in the first post by Archer, he says to feel free to talk about your own favorite album. That's probably the reason he was talking about Meddle, an extremely good album.
