Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

My favorite Pink floyd album is
WISH YOU WERE HERE, which I think is their best, and one of the best albums of the 1970's,
together with albums like Foxtrot,Lizard,
Thick as a Brick,Aqualung,Led Zeppelin IV,
Selling england by the pound,
songs from the wood, and of course DSOTM, Meddle and Atom Heart Mother.
I will try to explain why this is my favourite album, and I ask of you to do the same with your Favourite Pink Floyd album, and PLEASE GIVE FEEDBACK on what I wrote on
Wish You Were Here.

well on WYWH, a single riff or chord can express feelings that cannot be explained in a thousand words, and you can just feel the music, and how it was composed and the sheer
and pure energy and melody that flow from the music is amazing!
You can feel, as I said, just by listening,
how step by step the music was created, or instead, you can forget this process and feel
the out come in no way other Pink Floyd album
can.
The Beautiful Guitar on Dhine on you crazy Diamond,How it develops slowly, bit by bit, you can lie down on a shabat/Sunday afternoon(depends if you are American/canadian/british or Israelian)
and listen peacefully, until it grows to the lyrics "remember when you where young, You shone Like the Sun!"
and the mellow and solid Saxsophone after word gives it the atmostphere it should into my least favourite but still beloved track
"Welcome to the machine" Poor young syd must have had it hard when he was young, hasn't he?
or maybe It's just a Roger's fantasy? I admit I don't know. But I has Its own rebelious and depresive Spirit.
Afterwards there is "Have a Cigar", and yes,
one agent actualy asked the band "Which one is pink?"
Great Song indeed, and the pass into wish you were is one of the best in rock music history, together with the one from the Beatles white album(from Bunglow Bill to While my Guitar Gently weeps).
Then the Title song, simple with an acoustic
Guitar, and great Lyrics. than Phase 2 of shine on, a man awakes, then he understands
how much everything is wrong, than he tries to do something, then he just flows with the
flow...

This is one of the masterpieces of the 20th centuary music, together with the albums I Mentioned before, Plus In the court of the crimson King(1969),Tommy(1969),Brothers in Arms(1985),Abbey road, magical Mystery Tour,
sgt.Pepper,white album,Saucerful of secrets
and some more.

so please tell me what you think of what I wrote, and also share some of your thoughts
about your Favourite Pink Floyd Album.

Obscured By Clouds. Because there was no agenda and nothing to live up to. It's a true story.

Obscured is the worst, but yet I see your point. I have always felt that WYWH is the best musically, though Dark Side should be taught in some English Lit classes, it is the most poetic thing to come out of the 20th century.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I'm with you all the way. Out of all the Pink Floyd albums I've heard, Wish You Here is deffinitely the best. In Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Waters puts so much is so little.. amazing, I get goosebumps everytime I hear it. Welcome To the Machine was always a bit unexplaind 2 me, but I guess that's its charm. Have A Cigar.. a true masterpiece. (Which reminds me, if anyone has it in live version and can send it 2 me somehow I'd be greatful 4ever!! Or tell me how 2 get it..).

Wish You Were Here.. wow. I can cry when I hear this song, and I often do. The most beautiful love song ever written, even though it wasn't the original meaning.. the most beautiful way 2 express someone's feeling of longing and sadness. Wow.

Clsoing with Shine On.. well I guess I said it already. Besides.. My signature says it all.

Shine on guys....

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I have a couple different versions of Have a cigar, which I got off of Napster, the best of which is primus performing it. Unfortunately with Napster being kept under wraps by Metallica's SS I know of no way to get it to you.

Obscured isn't that bad, it just isn't WYWH.

I Believe I Have at least a couple of versions of Have a cigar Live by Pink Floyd
on Bootlegs, which I'm willing to supply, by MP3,if anyone has ICQ, I can Make the file than transfer it to him, although it's a big effort for me, I'm willing to do that if you are patient.

Re: Wish You Were Here - My Favourite Pink floyd Album

I really can't say what is Pink Floyd's best album: surely "Wish you wew here" is their pearl, every song is incredible and beautiful and the sequence leaves you without breathe! But, for example, my favourite album is "The piper at the gates of dawn" and a friend of mine loves "The wall"... I think that the power of Pink Floyd in the musical history is connected with their ability to change, even if, in any "age" - until Waters was is - they've made indescrivible albums!
