Re: Best Songwriter

Or do you mean with the credit of Mason/Gilmour/Waters/Wright/Barrett? Great, now I look stupid.

I don't think it's being a smartass, just proving a point. Well I didn't mean to be a smartass sorry if anyone took it that way.

I hope you didn't think I was referring to your post as being "smart mouth." It was just an ironic joke about myself.

Re: Best Songwriter

I didn't mean with the credits of all Floyds actually .... I was thinking of the creative ones in particular. Gilmour, Waters, Wright (mmhh, in alphabetical order, no fight). I don't think the best sngs of PF have been written with the contribution of Barrett an/or Mason, but maybe I'm some kind of an iconoclast !!!

That's one thing i hate about them. That it makes a difference for them if the song was written by Gilmour/Waters or Waters/Gilmour. I think that's a bit pathetic....

Re: Best Songwriter

I was referring to all past Pink Floyd members. Because really, a song written by Pink Floyd would be a song written by Mason, Wright, and Gilmour. But when most people refer to songs written by all Pink Floyd members, they refer to Mason, Wright, Waters, and Gilmour. This is in fact incorrect, as there are only three members. So when I said all of the members, I was including Roger Barrett.

Re: Best Songwriter

And of course, what I meant was songs co-written by everyone who was in PF at the time. And there are quite a few songs that fit into that category.

Re: Best Songwriter

You're right Radiochair. Sorry I misunderstood. I didn't stop to think about who is in the Floyd currently (Mason, Gilmour, Wright). But you are correct, there is no song on "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" or "The Division Bell" that bears all three of their names. But then, there is "Any Color You Like", written by GILMOUR,WRIGHT, and MASON.

Re: Best Songwriter

(Sorry to bring up an old topic)
On the best songwriter in Pink Floyd: "It could be made into a monster, if we all pull together as a team."
Yes, I'm aware of the irony that the "team" that wrote that song was Waters solely. But you get my point.

Re: Best Songwriter

You can never leave Syd Barrett out of the mix for the best PF songwriter. Piper at the Gates of Dawn was and still is one of the best PF albums ever.
So i give it a tie between Barrett and the Gilmour/Waters colaboration songs

Re: Best Songwriter

Any of you get a feeling that sometimes waters overdo it? Like his writings are a bit too serious, and all he writes about is humanity, not alowed to do that, problems, sosialism and so on. He is kind of stressed, and acctually, i dont think he cares crap about all that stuff. He is a little fake in my opinion. But i havent really gotten to look at his lyric all that much, but i feel his a bit fake in that mather. Maybe im wrong here.

Re: Best Songwriter

for those of you whom have read my others posts on the entire forum; i don't think i even need to post here.
But, i'll do it anyway.
Syd Barrett is in my honest opinion by far the greatest musician since Beethoven and Mozart.

Re: Best Songwriter

That's exactly why I like Waters/Gilmour best. Not everyday stuff like the pap every other songwriter on the planet cranks out.

Since I was 'mature' by the time I heard Barrett's stuff, it sounded silly to me. Had I heard his stuff as a child, I likely would have enjoyed it more.
