Syd Barrett, Kicked out of Pink Floyd or did he leave on his own?

For a while now my friend and I have been arguing about whether Syd was kicked out of Pink Floyd because he went insane from a high dosage of LSD, or if he left on his own for any other reason. Can someone set me straight on this cause I don't know for sure what's up?

Gilmour was brought on board so the band could perform live w/o the increasingly difficult Barrett

Barrett was to continue on as composer for the band

The grp was not eager to record songs Barrett presented to them such as 'Scream Thy Last Scream' & 'Vegetable Man' however, so Barrett left

They recorded Vegetable Man and Scream Thy Last Scream, but they were never officially released. (But you can get them on the fan-produced Have You Got It Yet? set)

Barrett was left behind. On their way to a gig, the rest of PF decided to not pick him up; his weirdness was causing too many problems.

incidently i just saw his "first trip" peice and i can see why the they had to do something about him.lol homeboy looked like a walking zombie.

btw who is that HOT chick in it ?
