It's awesome!!!!!!!!

I play bass. The rhythm wasn't that hard for me. It's just that it's in 7/4 time, while most other songs are in 4/4. That didn't bother me though, because I learned how to play Money beforeI even learned what a time signature was.

a time signature notes how many beats are played per bar

if you dont understand try playing "money" and see that you repat yourself once every 7 beats. just play it and count
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
then play something like "time" and count see that you only get to 4 because its a 4\4 song.
just try it on all kinds of songs
for example "shine on you crazy daimond us a 6\8 song (count it like this 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3)

Sorry to go right back to the start but....

I definately agree! It does not seem right for the album. I think they could have done more with such a great bass riff. Whenever I am listening to DSOTM, it is the only track I skip! It isn't a bad song, it just isn't well written and putting it on DSOTM moon was a bad choice.

Yeah, at first. But it changes to 4/4 at the second sax solo, then into 12/8 at the start of Part VI (the windy bit), then back into 6/8 at Part VII (the vocal reprise), then back into 4/4 at the jam session (Part VIII) and finally into 3/4 for the epilogue (Part IX).

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

Money may not be the best song on Dark Side but it is crucial to the whole CD I believe.....it's the most upbeat song on the album and steers the tone of the album away from being too serious and deep which i think is extremely important in all of the Pink Floyd albums. Other examples are "Have a Cigar" on WYWH, "Pigs(3 dif. ones) on Animals, and "San Tropez" on Meddle. I truly believe with any band that if you start taking yourself too seriously the music will suffer and sound somewhat awkward and boring at times. Basically I think Money is very Important to Dark Side

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

heres how i see it, although its overated(not to me, but some people) that doesn't mean its not a good song, or a bad one , but i think its a good one , and if its supposidly "overated" i don't mind it , because (once again)i think its a good song. and if they do play it on the radio more than most pink floyd songs , atleast they're playing pink floyd.

Hmmm. But, in that case, it's no wonder so many people outside the fanbase think that they're shit.

Which of course, isn't the case.

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

i agree with littlepiggy on this one - money is essential to dark side, without dark side wudnt be half as effective. well thats my view anyway.

It's a good song , it fit perfectly on the album , a blues -rock'n'roll to laugh about , like Young Lust from The Wall .

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

As I believe I mentioned elsewhere, a friend of mine actually enjoys "Money" because of Dave's screaming and the bass line. It is enjoyable, but definitely not up to par with the rest of Dark Side. Ever since Byron made that comment about a Vegas lounge singer, it has lost something in my eyes. I almoxt believe it was written for an elderly member to play it at the Sands when their act goes to a nightly performance like superstars of yesterday (Sinatra, Elvis, Don Rickles).

Yeah, that's the intent. That's why it's ironic.

Oh no! :o

I certainly didn't retell that Vegas tale to put anyone off Money.

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

Biggest irony I've seen is found in the Pompeii video, when a lust for money is admitted, at the very same time they're making Dark Side. I know that this conflict is being addressed in the song, but it comes off as righteous and indignant. I also feel that it does not keep with the rest of the album; Time and Brain Damage, almost every song, really, is distinctive, but they all still work on the album. On a personal note, Pigs is very serious to me. Animals is one of their heaviest works, at a time when the band took themselves the most seriously. The reason Pigs (3 Different Ones) sounds unlike the others is simply it was the only new work they wrote for the album, along with Pigs on the Wing.
