I love the song - expand if you would "John" on what you mean by "fit in". Then maybe i'll explain what i mean by "not fitting in"

Simply put, I feel that Money doesn't distract me from the album. I don't think to myself what the **** is this doing here. It is a quite fantastic way to open up the second side. And if you want to argue that the album was based on a theme, that being Syd's descent into insanity, it quite fits because Money is the driving force of sao many rock stars, including Floyd. Then again maybe I am full of horsehock?

No, I don't think your full of horsehock. You make perfect sense. After Great Gig in the Sky (or Any Colour You Like, I always get them mixed up), it pauses for the first time in the album. After delving into the Floyd experience there, it needs something to bring you back into the real world for a while. To do this, they need some sort of a 'rockin' tune to 'wake you up' from your sleep, so to speak. Afterwards you return to the Floyd world with Us and Them, one of my favorite tracks on Dark Side of the Moon. As Not Now John said before, it keeps building up until the climax and the end. You've then just finished the trip known as the Dark Side of the Moon.

But- and let's be objective here- it's shit, isn't it?

What do you mean by "shit"? It's actually not a very objective word, for instance people say: "The Shit", meaning "a very nice thing".... ....you can never be objective until you become ultimatley subjective.

"Shit" Has such a Negative sounding, for it represents the Poisons pushed out from our body, smelling awful. Calling a good Floyd song like that, although It might not be one of their best pieces,is so vulgar, and it bothers me a bit.Couldn't you use a more delicate wording, even if you didn't like the song? I wouldn't mind if you use that word at a REALLY BAD SONG , even if it's a floyd song, but at a song from DSOTM? For me this is simply A perfect album(although I've said before, My favourite id WYWH).I''m sure there are others like on this forum with such a view on this album. why using such terms?

| Jeez, you guys. Couldn't you tell fixxlevy was just trying to get your goats? I'll hand it to him though: he knows how to stimulate lively debate. However, what utter tosh he sometimes talks. And those who agree with him that "Money" doesn't somehow "fit in", accepting, of course, that you and fixxlevy are perfectly entitled to your opinions: what the hell's wrong with you Floyd "fans"?From the very beginning PF had an irreverent, mischievous streak in their music, often referring to the song or subject thereof while actually singing it. I always found this a rather endearing quality in them: they never took themselves TOO seriously…except maybe for Roger. And we are all aware of Roger's soapbox tendencies, so what better way to expose the darker sides of greed and avarice than by producing a brilliantly funky song about rock stars (celebrities) and money? Is it the band's fault that “Money” was probably their greatest single (perhaps the single "Another Brick In The Wall, part 2" may have been a bigger financial success, but really, do any of you think it ranks up there with "Money"?) and audiences go into apoplectic fits whenever it’s played? Or that the band could have predicted that some fans in the future would think it doesn’t quite fit in with the general, subjective “feel” of the rest of the album? Or, as I suspect, was it merely considered by them to be another very good track they had which should be included on what would become, to date, their most famous album? And, fixxlevy, were the band middle-aged chancers when they wrote it? I don’t understand it. DSOTM without “Money” would be like oceans without water, or a motorcar without a steering wheel: it just wouldn’t work. The fact “Money” IS on the album means it SHOULD be there. What, would you re-issue DSOTM without it? Why not remove Roger Waters from the band and continue calling it Pink Floyd? Oh dear, it’s already happened. ![]() Rant ends. Floyd hard! | I'm cool, dude. I wasn't heated up over fixxlevy expressing his opinion - hey he's as much entitled to his as everyone theirs. What prompted my lengthy response - apart from fixxlevy's cheeky postings - was the general consensus that we know better than Pink Floyd themselves what their motivation, inspiration was for a particular song/album/concert. "If I were a train, I'd be late ... again."
