I think MY rhetoric was more along the lines of a fait accompli AND the opinion that it "is not."

the album is about life, starting with a heart beat, and ending with one. Songs like time and breathe money and brain damage all have coralations. although money sounds different, its meaning is apropriate to the album. People's interviews featured in the album are all responces to questions about life.

if all u people would listen to echoes instead of dsotm there would be no problems in the world.

Yeah, everyone listen to Echoes instead of DSotM and we'll shoot bananas into starving kids' mouths by the sheer power of profundity alone!

Its always been my least faveorite song on Dark Side. Being played to death on classic rock radio station hasn't help save any luster it once had either. If I never heard this song again i still would have heard it too many times.

A nice thing about Money is the details. When you have heard the song to death, you can begin discovering the details. Nick's drumming in the 4/4 part is an example of something you can listen to over and over again, and discover new details.

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

I think Money fits into the main concept of DSOTM. I agree that the main theme of the album lyrically is about life/the human condition. Money represents greed. I think it's explained quite well on the Classic Albums DSOTM episode. I can see what people mean that it dosen't fit musically with the rest of the album, since it's the only blues rock tune on the record. Personally I've always liked Money, and I think it has the second best guitar solo on DSOTM next to the one on Time. I'd hardly call it generic pub rock though. How many generic blues wank tunes are in a seven/four time signature, let alone switch time sigs halfway through the song? Not many imo. They usually follow a 12 bar pattern and are in standard four/four time. Money is unique in that sense

Re: Isn't "Money" just a load of Rubbish?

Let's not forget that Pink Floyd, after all , is a Rock band and besides all the filosophy they have and wanted to transmit, they still wanted to rock out. As Waers says, money says exactly what we wanted wih DSotM: Get famous, get money(even in Live in Pompeii they say so).

I always liked to compare DSotM with Echoes, and in this case Money would be the blusey part of Echoes(only that less experimental)... now... what that part tells you in the song??? maybe some people would think it'll be a better song without it, I disagree. It's still about Rock'n'Roll, to have a good time with the music(and it's by far one of the greatest rock songs ever, comparable to Zeppelin's classic and that sort).
Besides, The song itself is a marvelous comparison of what the money wolrd is: joy, frenezy, and "happyness" so I don't think a more "soft" song, like the rest of Dark Side's songs would had been a better idea. It is not in disscordance withthe album because it tells exactly what the money is and what it generates(altough for me it's the weakest lyric in Dark Side)

p/d: I'm not sure if something like this has already been said, but it's been almost a year since my last login, so I honestly didn't read all the pages, but it was still a interesting topic
