And you know... even if they are trying to be Led Zeppelin.. I really fail to see what's so bad about bands reviving a particular type of rock. In all seriousness. There were 12 yr old kids at that concert and I think that to be a good thing, at least they're listening to something vastly more interesting than my chemical romance.

It's like when I was younger and listening to some band or other and dad would be all "this reminds me of Pink Floyd" or "This reminds me of Led Zeppelin" or any other band really and I'd be all "Pink what?" and thus discovered a whole other world of music.. Bands shouldn't be ashamed of the good ol' homage.

I'm gonna defend Wolfmother to the hilt on this one. Great live show, much much much better than the record.
Yeah, Jet is badass too, right?

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

you've got to be joking right?

You couldn't have picked two more different bands.. please think before you speak.

Also, I think Stockdale is overrated.. good song writer, but hasn't really got the chops. People should pay more attention to Chris (the bass player)... He's the really talented one in the band.

I don't know who stockdale or chris are.

but come on man, Jet's just reviving an old style. you gotta respect them righT? because kids go to their shows and then say "oh yeah this is neat" and momy and daddy say "that's a fucking who song!" and then the kids love the who! there you go. that's the same justification the same train of thought the same thing the same thing.

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

OK here is my point. And I don't mean this as a stab at you personally, and I really am not trying to be mean at all. I'm sure Lejla is a great person, but I don't know because I've never met Lejla.

However, your online persona of Sydney seems to think that she is the ultimate authority on all things musical. Maybe you're just trying to voice your opinion (well, that IS what you're doing) but it comes off as very rude. You call people ignorant if they disagree with your musical tastes. You act like you are right and everybody else is wrong. If someone says "I don't like the way some hip hop portrays the african american community" you say "NO! You are ignorant! you don't understand rap or anything else you closed minded fool!". If someone says they don't like wolfmother, again, they're ignorant, and it's your duty to enlighten them because only you know the truth. It seems like you try to make look like a fool anyone whose opinion is slightly different than yours. Maybe this should be a private message but I really don't think I'm the only one who thinks this way.

I mean, a simple "Well, I like wolfmother for the following reasons..." would be infinitely nicer and more considerate. You don't have to storm into every music related thread and tell everybody why their opinion is bullshit. Again, I don't mean this against you personally, and maybe you don't even realize how you're coming off, but that IS how you are coming off to people.

Sorry if this is offensive in any way. I've just wanted to say this a million times and I want to be as polite about it as I can.

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

I think people are being extremely closed minded re Hip Hop. I think that it's a musical genre that is going through some pretty severe growing pains, much like Elvis was seen to be vulgar back in the day. So yeah, I'll more than happily take the blame for being on my high horse about this. I've never asked anyone to LIKE hip hop, I've merely asked people to stop pushing it into a "black violent thug music" corner.

As for wolfmother, fine, don't like them I'm not asking anyone to like them either. I have never denied that they take great influence from Led Zeppelin etc either. I do take bother with people making wide sweeping statements about them without justifying them either "pfft.. they wish they were Led Zeppelin" isn't really explaining much is it? I'm attempting to explain what is good about them. Those who don't like them at all won't go see a live show, I'm saying that I think the live shows are worth seeing. I changed my mind about them after seeing a live gig. Kind of a don't dismiss until you've tried it mentality. If you have tried it, and still don't like it, fair enough, each to his own.

So what bothers me aren't opinions, it's baseless opinions, and I see it here time and time again. "Well I've never really heard blah.. but I think they're doing blah"

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

It's actually Black Sabbath that Wolfmother most closely resemble.

Even though you both make some valid points, you should chill out or take it to PM.

In my opinion, Wolfmother are worse than MCR. This is for the reasons you mentioned: they're not turning over any new ground, they're imitating and mimicking (thus not using any songwriting talent), and they're making that okay. There are so many bands like this today, and it makes me sick. If I wanted to listen to Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, I would. I don't need a band to re-record "IV" for me. It's that mentality that is still trying to kill rock, and forcing people to go to other mainstream genres (emo, etc).

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

I see where you are coming from and I agree to some extent, but I can not stress to you how VASTLY different the live shows are. Did you ever hear their EP? It's so much grittier, dirtier, and so many more jams. That's what a live show is like and then some. I have met SO many people who hated them and then when they saw them live at a festival or something were totally blown away.

I'm beating a dead horse here, but honestly.. it's like two different bands when you see them live.

That's all i have to say on that now

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

Even if that were true, I wouldn't pay to see them live; going to live shows is where bands make the majority of their money. So in giving them money, I'd only be perpetuating that type of derivative music.

Re: Your Concert Résumé...

actually, unless the band is huge - Pink Floyd in the 90s being an example - bands usually lose money by touring. It's the record sales that result from exposure that really bring bands money, so feel free to check them out. Additionally, I don't really understand why people consider non-original music to be worthless. If a band is doing a damn good job of making music, then more power to them. True innovations don't come around everyday... so I say appreciate good music whenever it comes around.

I'd like you to quote me three examples of bands that lose money by touring.
