According to my 1973 Harvest Records LP jacket (doesn't have a pressing date, think I got it in '79 or '80), it's "The". BTW, thanks for asking this - I don't think I've played it for many years, and when I pulled the record out, the original posters fell out with it... Nice surprise.

On my huge DSOTM poster it just says "Pink floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon" The dark side of the moon sounds too mainstream. Anything with "the" in it sounds too commercial, except for things like the wall.

It says 'the' (as Rob points out) on all of the vinyl sleeves I have. It's without a 'the' on the '94 re-master, but it was added on the 2003 SACD version. And the 30th anni. vinyl release doesn't have anything on the spine at all.

$5 (one you would find at a Salvation Army store and hope it works when you get it home) to $7,000 or so (ultra-high end turntable on three Plexiglas feet and spindle weight). Mine is somewhere in the middle, nice dependable Numark DJ turntable.

But they're cheap and plentiful, for the taking. Just search for 'em.

Couple bits of mostly unsolicited advice on turntables -

Records are fragile and mostly irreplaceable.

The first thing you buy is something to clean your records and needle with - best you can afford. Dunno if they're still around, but I recommend Discwasher products.

Make sure you have a good cartridge and needle. If you buy a used unit, just plan on getting a new cartridge - like mom says, you don't know where that one's been.

Learn how to properly balance the tone arm and set the anti-skate. If necessary, find some old guy to show you - this has a direct bearing on the lifespan of your vinyl. Test it on an old record you don't care about, if you aren't absolutely sure.

If buying a new one, check the specs. On direct drive turntables, rumble is very important - buy the one with the lowest number you can get. For belt drive, look at wow and flutter; again, you want the lowest number. I won't go into whether belt drive or direct drive is better; that's more religion than science.

Most of the other specs are completely dependent on the cartridge - there are many different ones available, and the prices vary tremendously.

Put the turntable on the most solid, absolutely flat, level object in the house.

Brand names? I always liked Technics and JVC, Sony has some inexpensive ones. I currently own a BST PR106, and dislike it intensely. Has good specs and sounds good, though.

And also, I used to have a awsome turntable until I got in Grade six and thought it would be cool if I got the Alvin and the Chipmunks record and played it side ways foward backwards and any horrible way you could ever think to do to a record....i grabbed the(Pardon this) "That little thing that holds the needle" and scratched it up and down the record....Im so disgusted with myself for that..

I bet you can find some good turntables at your local Pawn Shop.

I have a JVC circa 1989 which works great.
