Hiya man- I know we've never had any direct contact before and I'm not sure if this is the correct protocol or whether I should have contacted you privately, but I was wondering if you've considered some sort of "messenger" service for your(admittedly, pretty comprehensive) site, in the vein of the Hotmail or Yahoo versions. I'm sure you've probably considered it, and not having any clue towards the machinations behind it, I don't know if it's possible or not, but am pretty sure it would take our jovial Floyd flavoured banter to a new and wholly immediate level.

Perhaps others might like to register their levels of interest...?

Hope you enjoyed the gig,

Mark

You mean like a chat-room?

That'd be a great thing!

I meant more like a program you download that, like yahoo messenger, contains selected (or all) members of this particular website, and will let you know when they are online, lets you chat to each other and share files or alerts you when you have received a(no doubt Floydy flavoured) email in your pinkfloydfan mail box.

I don't know how many of you have hotmail addresses, but if you go to www.hotmail.com , it should give you the option of downloading the messenger there, and that'll give you an idea of what I'm meaning.

I find mine extremely handy for chatting online, because it means that you don't have to put up with the usual fucking rubbish from online idiots, and simply chat to the people that you know have similar tastes and something in common with you.

As I said before, I'm not sure if you can do this Dallagnol, but it would be a worthy addition to your website.

And frankly, would rock really fucking hard.

Cheers,

Mark

Well then, give out your im names and we'll all put them in and have a chat!! sounds fun i think!! mine is birdseatbugs@aol.com and jinglemeow@yahoo.com so if you know the email address of the ones that you want to chat with just look under their profiles and you can add them to your list to see when their on to chat. I like the idea even though i downloaded that icq thingie and i have know idea as to where to find my pink floyd guys!!(and girls) ...i guess . that site has too many topics to find the one that all you guys are in!!! see ya colleennn

Fixxlevy, I agree with her, I all ready have the Yahoo, AIM, Microsoft, and ICQ messenger services, I don't need another, perhjaps we can all agree on one to use and then use that one.

Yes, I see your point. but unless we all get addresses for, say, Icq, to pick one at random, wouldn't it make sense for all the registered users of this site to have a designated "Great gig..." one, with all of us and any further joinees on it? Icq is good, but I got pissed off with "so and so in The Domenican Republic has added you to their Icq" and wanted something that was a little more exclusive.
Having stumbled into this particular site, I feel that it warrants that exclusivity, and would facilitate spontaneous chat worthy of it's subject matter.

Cheers,

Mark

I have ICQ, but i can't do any Chat room stuff on AOL cause i'm not a member.

How do you join a chat-room with ICQ?

Well, anyway, the only chat room i have used is mIRC - which works very well, only i don't know how to set up a room, but i'll try to find out and then we'll be in business!

Lads. It's not actually a chat room I'm talking about. It's a personal messenger program that runs in the background when you're online. When a registered user from this site goes online, it'll tell you and you can privately instant message each other.

Ok then - my bad.

But still, a chat room would be nice!
I would certainly like to set up a date where we could all be online and have a HUGE Floydian discussion - that is my goal, and if anyone knows how we could do this please post it!

I'm afraid i'm not that good with setting up stuff like that on computers!

Mark - sound like a great idea. The thought of arranging a date and time for a conference as Charade suggests is sound ! Sure, there are disagreements but we are all united by our appreciation of the best music around.

As someone who struggles with the technology, one question - how easy would it be to use ?

Hey fellow floydians,

So, this is my first post after David's concert, but I'm still catching up with real life and I have TONS of things to do, so I won't make a report of what the concert was like just yet. As soon as I have the chance, I will, though, including many pictures from the concert.

Anyway, I like your idea, fixxlevy. Unfortunately, I don't know of any not-expensive way to have our own Floydian Communicator program, like ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger and others. These programs have a lot of development put into them, and that's not something I know how to create from scratch.

So, we have two options:
1) Open up a chat room, which is one of my future plans, so you can come here anytime and chat and even have a specific date (for instance, Sunday, 08:00 PM EST or something like that) weekly, bi-weekly, or whatever you find it's better, to come and have a giant Floydian discussion. That would be really interesting, and is something I'm looking forward to. I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

2) About the Instant Messenger, I agree with Not Now John, that besides the technical difficulties of making such a program, having another icon sitting on the taskbar is not a good idea, specially for those that have already ICQ, AIM, Microsoft, Yahoo and dozens of other already installed. I like ICQ very much, and this board (phpBB) has some support to it, such as the ICQ icon after everybody's posts, so you can add other users to your lists. Besides, you can even apply a skin to yet, so we could develop our own Pink Floyd skin so it looks better! It supports AOL AIM as well, so it is more of a matter of deciding which program to adopt as the general program for users of this website.

Well, those are my thoughts on the subject.
I definately liked the ideas you guys brought up.

As far as contacting me, there are many ways to do that, either publicly like you did, sending a private message through this board (click on Memberlist, and you have the option to send a private message to any users) or using the "Contact Us" option on the navigation bar to your left.

Cheers,
Paulo

Chat room sounds like a good idea. I'm sure the second option is also good, but it's all Greek to me

I would really enjoy the chance of a big on-line discussion.
