OK, ive searched far and wide for an answer to this, so i decided to try my luck with all you geniuses

What is the reference to Jennifer Gentle in "Lucifer Sam" about?
Was she some sort of pop icon at the time?
the only search result from this site was the "Piper" credits by The Piper, so please don't start throwing "it's on another thread" stuff, unless of course it actually is.

Syd Barrett's girlfriend at the time was named Jennifer. She, apparently, was on his bad side when he wrote the song.

"you're the left side"= her situation
"he's the right side"= Syd's situation

the left side right side verse - it has been theorised it was a reference to the pop- psychology of the time, the left side of the brain--creativity, and the right side--logic, math, etc.

It's the other way around. Left=logic and math, Right=creativity. It would make more sense anyway. Right side is creative, like Syd, and I guess if she's the left side, she must've been smart or something.

She left Syd...ergo...smart.
