A Saucerful Of Secrets - a horrible song!

I really do not see th point of this song. It's just a horrible out of tune, waste of time. I wish they could've came up with something a bit better than this to fill up the album. I don't like the live versions either. Am I alone here?

Shut up, just because u dont have any idee what their doing. Its genius, u just dont see it. If you look at the video or something you see how consentrated they are, and the end of the song is beautiful.

I must agree with Ablaze, just because the surface may be rough, that does not in whole invalidate the song. Many times with PF one must look beyond the core of the song, or the tune. This is one such instance.

SoS is a beautiful tune... Syncopated Pandemonium and all.

It's just like an emergence from chaos to beauty, (which I hope that most of us can agree on regarding the end--Celestial Voices I think it's called). I'm also referring to the live versions here (as I'm not particularly fond of the studio version).

I really enjoy the studio version a lot. As for the live version off Ummagumma, I don't think it's that great.

However, the definitive version would have to be the "Live at Pompeii" version!! (Hence the avatar) It's simply amazing!!

Saucerful of Brilliance

Dear Forum,

This is my first post. As a lifelong Pink Floyd fan I think I should comment on Alistair Tait's first post about SOS (the song)...
I think you are pretty much alone in your opinion of this song. Moobles' comment of "It's just like an emergence from chaos to beauty" is perhaps right on the money. The song is a bit chaotic in the forst 1/4 of the song but the remergence part at roughly 7 mins may just be some of Floyd's best work.
The live Ummagumma version is the best version in my opinion with the Pompeii and other live bootlegs coming in a close second. The album version is still quite brilliant but was recorded very early in their career so perhaps abit amaturish compared to later live versions. Anyone disagree?

I don't mind the end of the song too much. Especially on the Pompeii DVD.

I actually like the parts before Celestial Voices better. Especially on Pompeii. Rick's got a pretty easy piano part! Celestial Voices is pretty and stuff, but it kinda drags on after a while.

I wonder if Rick ever managed to play the exact same piano "part" for Syncopated Pandemonium TWICE? haha. That would be a good probability question for all you math majors out there
