Who here likes... UFO?

Right after Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd UFO is my most favorite band, too bad they don't get the recognition they deserve. Guys like Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen get the credit for a guitar style that Michael Schenker created and in my opinion is way better than those guys, and he doesn't need tremolo bars, finger tapping and sweep-picked arpeggios going a million notes-per-minute. What a badass!

Strangers in the Night is definately one of the great influential yet overlooked gems of rock history, just like Jeff Beck's Truth.

And does anyone here know what Michael Schenker is up to nowadays?

I've seen UFO 3 times , twice with Schenker and once without. With Schenker they were superb, without they were merely a good rock band. I'm talking late '70's early '80's here btw, I have no idea if they are still around in some form or other or what Schenker is up to these days. He was a great guitarist though, no question, check out the UFO album Obsession or the double live album Strangers In The Night.

I have not seen many guitarists like Michael Schenker. He wasn't called "Mad Axman" for nothing. I still chuckle when I read the story of how he stole along with the rest of the band, unknown to anyone except himself, and landed up in Tokyo, at the age of 15! It was no secret that he was far more talented than his brother Ruolf.

Sure hope he's doing fine though.

Only just discovered UFO thanks to amazon recommendations. They definitely rock particularly schenker on born to lose. Best of album was only £3.33, a bargain!

There are loads of them including scorpions, budgie, dio. I think its a lazy 3 for a tenner promotion, but good for building the collection and discovering more bands.
