| Re: What's the weather out there ? It is currently rather cool out of the sunlight, the day is meant to rather fine and sunny. Tempting fate, I will risk it and suggest that for the first time in a very long time, we expect very good weather for the Easter holiday than we've enjoyed for many a year. Joyeaux Paques, tout le monde!

'whizzing'- A quaint old Scottish expression meaning to travel at a very fast pace. It is derived from the language of the ancient times ( 1432) just after the battle of Ben Doon, near the shores of Kissmaerse, when Big Jock, his mighty weapon (a Claymore), and his army, chased the English redcoats back over the border. The English were commanded by Lord Cecil Whezz who ran away really quickly. This act was witnessed by the Scots, who were giving their sporrans a drink of whisky after their bravery in the battle (It is reported by an onlooker that 20 sporrans made quick work of 100 English redcoats!!) The Scots, who were chewing on raw haggis said " hoots... the sassenachs (English) are Whezzing away". This phrase was corrupted down through the ages and became 'whizzing'. It was also later used by drug addicts in Glasgow, who used it to describe a form of amphetamine use ..'whizz'. I hope this clears up any confusion.

| Re: What's the weather out there ? haha, we say "whizz" here too. If you are lucky, you might just "zip" by the shop while "whizzing" around on a scooter too. It is unseasonably warm here in the Emerald Isle dry for now.

ahh jiggyaunt being from the emerald Isle you will no doubt be aware of the origin of the word 'zip'. Zip- a quaint old Oirish word which dates to back through the mists of time. It all started one day when Darby o'Gill fell through a rabbit hole and landed at the feet of the King of the Little People ( Brian Burrooooo). The King was so impressed by Darby's lovely fair isle sweater that he allowed him the honour of sitting in the famous rocking chair of St Val. Darby sang the King a funny song about Delaney's Donkey which made the King laugh so much that he fell right off the top of his crock of gold. The King rewarded Darby with a crock of gold and a special dark black drink which was made by the angels. We later know that this drink was actually Guinness. Darby had never tasted anything like it and he drank it down with such speed that all the little people stopped their jigging about. The King said to Darby "sip" but as Darby was from Connemara, where people have lots of hair in their ears, he thought the king had said Zip and that he was encouraging him to drink faster. Darby noticed that he could drink and drink without any ill effects..such was the magic of the Little People. When Darby got home the following morning his wife asked him where he had been? Darby recounted the whole story and said that he had been zipping with the Little People. The crock of gold had turned into a crock of sh.. ah well that's another story. Down through the ages the term 'to zip' or 'zipping' has been used to convey 'doing something quickly' and you will often here Irish folks say " Oim zipping off for a pint" or " Oim zipping off to the bookies".
