It isn't, but if you check the above post, neither is it. I just had a story to tell, and in the style of certain other regular posters, i thought i'd stick it up on whatever board i was on. I think what i was trying to get at originally was that it was a very weird day, and that i listened to Several Small Species when i was home, and that was also weird. Now that i think about it, what the hell WAS the point? Forget it...

I read an old interview in which Roger stated that ummagumma was thrown together from pressure by the record label. the label allegedly told them to record a double lp featuring both live and studio music, the studio side to feature each member's individual abilities. The Floyd were all sore displeased with the final result, and at one point considered redoing the whole thing...then along came Dark Side of the Moon.

I can rightfully say that I like that. Hook me up to the lie detector, maybe. |

I thought that the band had planned to do the live record so that they could retire the songs from their live act. |

| Re: could ummagumma and Sauserful of secrets been a little less "mad scientist" sounding That's entirely possible. I only know the band didn't like the pressure from the label...and I also remember they had just toured before recording ummagumma & that's partly why the label wanted a "rush job"...to capitalize on the momentum. That's the problem with the "paper pushers" controlling the artists for the sake of better numbers...the result is artistic bullshit.

Yeah, that's one thing I heard as well. Then of course, Pompeii has three of them all over again, two years later. Also, I find Ummagumma is a better album to listen to than The Soundtrack to More, which i am not particularly fond of (on another thread i think i mentioned how terrible "Quicksilver" is)

| Re: could ummagumma and Sauserful of secrets been a little less "mad scientist" sounding ummagumma isn't my fav floyd work, but I sure did appreciate the nice little poster which came with the cd!!! I heard a rumor that ummagumma's studio part was written by the floyd members, but was secretly recorded with Syd playing the instruments...maybe that explains why it's so "audibly tormenting".

| Re: could ummagumma and Sauserful of secrets been a little less "mad scientist" sounding hey, I agree, I didn't start it, just heard it. It goes along with the equally strange/stupid rumour that Syd wrote most of the music/lyrics & creative art ideas for the Wall & Rog/David/Scarfe took credit.

| Re: could ummagumma and Sauserful of secrets been a little less "mad scientist" sounding You actually heard that rumour? Wow... Perhaps i should get a job making up rumours. Attempt #1 Pink Floyd are in fact not four different people, but three different people (circa 1971). This can be proven by having no interviews with Rick Wright on Pompeii - he's actually played by a roadie while the real Rick Wright was on a special top secret mission to the moon to collect the dung of moon-rhinos, a chinese delicacy, the proceeds from the sale of which would pay for any future cocaine habit he may have developed.

| Re: could ummagumma and Sauserful of secrets been a little less "mad scientist" sounding I thought Rick had died mysteriously after they shot the cover for the Abbey Road album??? He was the only one not wearing shoes in the photo. ![]()

No, that wasn't Rick, they just pasted his head on the photo to make it look like it was. That's why he's not wearing the shoes, as it would be a giveaway (Rick's shoes were said to be very distinctive).
