I hadn't realised that you'd taken a photo of me with my glasses on, frankly.

I love my cameltoe.

You're cunning!

Absolutely love "Live at Pompeii." I first saw it when I was about 15 (13 years ago now), on VHS. The FIRST video of the Floyd I've ever seen. I immediately became attached to the group...and when it came out on DVD a couple years back, I was extrmely happy with the sound quality and remastered picture quality. I vote it to be one of the BEST art-rock videos of ALL-TIME!!! (Especially the "A Sacuerful of Secrets" version -- beautiful.)

In my opinion, the best live perfomance ever. the One Of These Days version is excellent, even better than the original one, also the A Saucerful of Secrets one, with Roger knocking the gong... amazing!

It was crap because it's largely a work of fiction. Oliver Stone sucks. Val was great in it though.

Leave Frank....wow.

Re: Live at Pompeii you will grow to love it

"Live at Pompeii"... I must have been 17-like, when I saw it for the first time. In 2nd half of 80s there was a program on TV titled "Non Stop Color", presenting the classic rock films, and one of them was "Pompeii". It was that longer version, with additional Abbey Road footage (the one which sadly didn't make DVD so far). I was fascinated - their beautiful music on Pompeii arena, with all that stuff of ruins and paintings and mosaics and volcano... It fited so good together. It was few months after I had discovered "TDSOTM", so I enjoyed also the scenes from studio, with Gilmour overdubbing guitar solos, or Wright adding piano. I only wished we had a video recorder to tape it... Now I watch on DVD both versions alternately - original one for the original live footage, and DC for that interviews and studio work. Too bad there's no the "long old version" on DVD - I've got it only as double-VCD bootleg.
No need to say the next albums I wanted to get after having watched "Pompeii" were "Meddle" and "Ummagumma".
"Live at Pompeii" remains my favourite Floyd's filmed gig. The second best is "Delicate Sound of Thunder" - another one not available on DVD, except videodisc-ripped bootleg.

Re: Live at Pompeii you will grow to love it

I totally agree with you, GrandVizier. I believe Live at Pompeii is one of the finest pieces of art ever made on video, especially considering when it was first filmed. So avant-garde and, as you said, it all fit very very well together... I especially like the Careful With That Axe, Eugene part. It always gives me the goosebumps, from the monkey mosaic on...

I also agree that the original version was much better than the director's cut for the original live footage. I think the new version just added too much noise and special effects to the original version, which was near perfect IMHO. Let us hope they'll publish the original one on BluRay someday...

And I still cannot believe they haven't published DSoT on DVD or Bluray... It's such an obvious publishing choice when you consider all the crap that is available out there...

Re: Live at Pompeii you will grow to love it

Loved it from the very first time I saw it.

I've become something of a collector of live music dvd's and this was my first (I think) and is still my favourite.

Only read the first couple of posts and I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but if not the reason there's so much footage of Nick (namely on 'One of These Days') is because the director or somebody lost a lot of the footage of the other guys. Lost it or it got ruined or something. Can't remember exactly.
