Re: Floyd's Best Song: The Poll

Ok shoot me, but I have always adored Hey You, and how that song just seems to be reaching out for US the listener! The song's atmosphere and desperation really moved me when I first heard it.

I don't disagree with the other songs in the poll. They are all very good. But IMO Hey You is a different genre and version of the Floyd. The band had become a monster by the Animals tour. Very detached from its audience and vice versa. This song seems to reach out and ask for forgiveness and is one last ditch attempt at conciliation. Pink asks for our help, but things are truly screwy and we cant get to him and he can't get to us.

I believe this song was written in a flash and its original purpose was to bridge other pieces. It doesnt have the intense lyrical magic of other Waters songs, but the soundscapes and atmosphere fill the void.

I would just have liked to have seen Hey You on the poll.

Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, don’t help them to bury the light
Don’t give in without a fight.

Hey you, out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you, with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I’m coming home.

But it was only fantasy.
The wall was too high,
As you can see.
No matter how he tried,
He could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain.

Hey you, standing in the road
Always doing what you’re told,
Can you help me?
Hey you, out there beyond the wall,
Breaking bottles in the hall,
Can you help me?
Hey you, don’t tell me there’s no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

[click of tv being turned on]
Well, only got an hour of daylight left. better get started
Isnt it unsafe to travel at night?
It’ll be a lot less safe to stay here. you’re father’s gunna pick up our trail before long
Can loca ride?
Yeah, I can ride... magaret, time to go! maigret, thank you for everything
Goodbye chenga
Goodbye miss ...
I’ll be back

I went with Comfortably Numb, I love the lyrics and the guitar solo is amazing.
My second choice is easily Time though,
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day....

In fact, that's what I'm doing right now

Comfortably Numb is by far my favorite PF song.

I can't beleive Hey You wasn't on that list

Thanks for the vote, PF Sweet.

There are a number of 'personal favorites' that didn't make the poll. I took the list from the songs on the other thread that got the most mentions, and are generally considered their best work.

Re: Floyd's Best Song: The Poll

It really depends on the person I guess. The ones on the poll are mentioned alot.

I have seen alot of polls like this and usually they always end up different.

Re: Floyd's Best Song: The Poll

I voted Dogs, before I realized that Time was on the list, which sucks, because I really, really like time, although Dogs is a close second, and Comfortably Numb a really close third.

Can't decide out of great gig In the sky, or Sheep or Childhoods end.
I feel guilty if i choose one over the other, it's like being asked "which one of your kids is your favorite....

I voted for Echoes. It's just amazing. Shine On would be a close second though.
