Re: Pink Floyd The Greatest?

Forgive me for interrupting but as I have a one track mind where all things Bunnymen are concerned, and as TOF committed the ultimate sin of insulting the Bunnygod earlier on, I feel I must interject and compell him to read the following :

During their illustrious career, Echo & The Bunnymen have been cited as an influence by many artists including Coldplay, The Coral, Interpol, Courtney Love (ok scratch this one!!), Pavement, Moby, Flaming Lips, Howie B, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Radiohead, amongst others. In recognition of this, the band were awarded the Q Inspiration Award at the end of 2002.

Thank you.

Your lack of musical taste is somewhat suprising NNJ.

Re: Pink Floyd The Greatest?

Maybe you are all too literal minded to comprehend my views.
Technically water in general (i.e. most variety’s/forms considered) does have a taste to it, figuratively we claim it doesn’t due to the taste being so slight.
Bottled water widely available on the shelves does differ in taste, some of them quite noticeable, especially to the connoisseur.
Was it a Robinsons advert? “makes water taste better”
My statement along the lines of ‘water is of average taste’ collates to peoples perception of drinking waters taste. i.e. based on a scale of bad to good and as the taste borders on neutral the verdict can only be around average.
I can use the term average as it can be of quality i.e. ‘the first guitar I ever bought was made from average materials’ this doesn’t just refer to common woods being used etc but how good the wood is.
I know you will not open your heart to my views but there was even a program on T.V. a few months back were experts were comparing the different tastes of water and judging them.

no.

Water is essential for survival, yes. Actually saying "water is average taste" is completely wrong, because water is odourless and tasteless. And WHAT is "average taste" by the way?

average can relate to quality "you used average wood for your stairs I'd have used some better wood"

[QOUTE]I personally think there are so many songs by Floyd (Corporal Clegg, parts of SoS and other early era songs) grate real bad and sound horrible. There are no lyrics involved. And listening to those songs make me want to cover my ears and scream.[/quote]

you are starting to think like me, those songs I think you are refering to do grate, you don't need bottle to state this as a fact

Quote:
I wonder if you are doing this on purpose because we are right where we started out. You said "how the song sounds is key". To you it sounds great. To me it doesn't. Now are you right just because you say so?

but here you are contradicting yourself, we both like and dislike the same music it's only our preferences that set us apart.

Quote:
Alright wiseguy. In some cases, there is no time for tests. In some cases, you can't afford them. And in still other cases, you just can't do tests. Still want to say that a medical opinion is "just a way for Doctors to cover their asses" ?

Thats my point, no time for tests is another great reason for diagnosis to be considered opinion "I'm sorry sir but all the symptoms pointed to you having gangrene" heard in the war a few times.
It's why a lot of doctors escape prison terms.

Quote:
Do you even realise what you are saying?

yes, but do you my facile friend.

Quote:
You still haven't "proved" anything.

I'll wait till you start listening. The point is more important than the spelling.

Quote:
Oh please. Don't keep us in the dark.

Burden of proof is on the accuser. It is not me Sir, but you who is to be doing the proving.

easy way out slime'on

Quote:
Besides, I (and others) have already done our parts by saying that musical taste is subjective and hence cannot be proved. You Sir, differ but have shown no substantiations with your claims.

musical taste is subjective, I'll acknowledge when your facts are correct. My point is were all capable of liking something regardless of taste i.e. I like classical music a lot, but it doesn't suit my aquired taste, mainly because I'm quite self-consious and I'd feel embarrassed blasting it out in the car or listening to it around others This is a crucial point, it's why many people refuse Floyd.

Quote:
Oh, I'm not the only one doing the ridiculing, don't you worry.

Time is on my side. You'll enjoy debating with me eventually, it's better than stating what you had for breakfast this morning.

In my opinion marooned sounds shit

untrue opinion. i.e in my opinion you don't believe what you've written.

By the by: There's that theme of "universally" accepted of yours again. Personally many a people have no comprehension of what a whale is. To some, their screeching is absolutely horrific.

no but everyone who hears there song finds it pleasant, find me someone who is irritated by there sounds.....you wont. In the future machines will prove this. (OK, A LITTLE HYPOTHETICAL)

"shit will be shit, no matter what you do"

I like this quote. It represents perfectly everything I've tried to get across.

Re: Pink Floyd The Greatest?

Matthew Gill: Gerald is right. You're going nowhere with this.

Gerald: I think we should give this guy an English lesson.

NNJ: To tell you the truth, I've never even heard anything by the Bunnymen!!! I was just trying to get you going. hahaha

Thorin: Where the hell are you with my explanation of "Cloth Eared Gimp"?!

Re: Pink Floyd The Greatest?

A flame will not survive without oxygen.

Pink Floyd is damned fine, I freely admit it, but the GREATEST band ever was the John Philip Sousa Orchestra, thanks very much.

Case closed, everyone can now all go home.
