| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? at a 2nd thought, both the Words AND the music are important. But the music is what makes floyd floyd.

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? I think it is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. When you jam ...if the tab or rhythm comes first then it is the song/music that is more important. If its the lyrics that come to mind first than thats what makes the song. And most songs you can usually tell which came first. (example)...I know not now johnny boy likes the rage , well for this band I would have to say that the lyrics came first(more important) then came the power chords. As for floyd, I am thrilled that they could get the actual feel in the lyrics to accompany the guitar. That is so hard to do...you guys know that by having a band. like, you play something that you know what the feel is and your singer goes and raves something of a whole nother style!! sux. Anyway, I think floyd is the best band for having an equal/center line for demonstrating the feel of the music in words. And last thought, I also think Jethro Tull has this quality in there music. |

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? Actually, I think most of Rage Against the Machine's songs have the songs coming first. I was watching an interview with Tom Morello and Tim Commerford of Rage and they were saying it's more difficult for Zack because he has to wait for them to finish writing the songs so that Zack can write the lyrics. It's good to see some Rage fans on here. They are an extremely good band and have all their albums (except for Live and Rare, as the only copies I see are on eBay and are about $40 US, making it 60 for me). As for the whole lyric and music bit, the lyrics are important, but not as important as the music. As Not Now John said to Wrightkeys before, I may be biased because I am a musician, but I still think for most people that the music has a great impact. But still, how far can music go? It is a great feeling and sounds incredible, but can it really compare to lyrics that can actually tell you things? Despite that, I believe that the music is more important. |

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? None of you guys are going to convince me that Roy Harper saying, "oh, by the way, which one's Pink?" is less important than any guitar riff on that album. This is my final word on this subject, because really it is a never ending debate and we each have our own opinions.

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? Yeah, But when Gilmour plays a riff on 'Shine on you crazy Diamond', it delivers(atleast for me) feelings and emotions that are indescribeable in a thousand words, or a million sentences, and you can actuly feel how the music has been created, layer by layer. how ever poetic words are, they rarely can do that. and remember. perheps 80-90 precent of SOYCD(i'm not trying to do an excact math calculate here but to prove a point) is made of music ,Not words. How ever the words might be magical and Imaginative(and they are), without the music it would never had been the same work of art. We must remember that David, Roger, Mick & nick are musicians, Not poets. And they are musicians who specialize in long instrumntal pieces of music, with Imaginative words here and there.

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? Actually I fancy Rog as being a poet, and I would agree that the music was the most important part pre-Dark Side, but if someone were to write the lyrics of Dark Side out especially Breathe, Time and the last 2 tracks, you would see how great they are. And really The Great Gig, is not that great, and that is totally musical, with the exception of the ahh-aahhs. But I will reitierate, it is the combo of lyrics and music that make Floyd Floyd, not one or the other. Now, that is my final word, really this time.

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? _archer, you are almost correct. David, Richard and Nick are muscians not poets. Roger Waters is a poet, his lyrics are simply the best. Yes, there are many amazing pieces of music that make the spine tingle but there are incredible lyrics. Too busy right now to list them, but I will offer some examples... |

| Re: Which is more important, the music or the lyrics ? Don't mess with "A great gig in the sky"! j/k after all this is the "Great Gig in the Web" (catchy Paulo, very catchy - almost 'suave') Anyway - Roger, he's a poet and a musician (i believe) Gilmour can't write lyrics for.... i think you catch my drift And i think Lyrics were a large part of it even BEFORE DSOTM, Meddle has some great lyrics, and though Syd was high most of the time, his lyrics are quite enjoyable. "I love she, she loves me" (Suave aswell) "Suave I Am" ---alright enough of that, "Charade I Am"
