Ween played Echoes Live

Floydians,

I was reading through a section which talked about bands covering songs so I decided to hit Kazaa and download "Pink Floyd covers." Much to my surprise numerous popular bands have covered PF such as Foo Fighters, Limp Bizkit, Tool, Primus, Dream Theater & Kitty. HOWEVER, I did notice a live performance by Ween. Thinking back a few years I vaguely remembered them. But I downloaded it anyway...
The other covers either flat out suck, dont do PF justice or too closely resemble the songs (and also suck). However, I must say "oh the blasphemy" that Ween did a rather good job of covering PF, let alone their OPUS, Echoes. I could tell that they certainly put some time into practicing. I dont know who "Ween" is nor do I care, nor will I ever. But, I must say they sound pretty decent playing Echoes (and I thought I would never say that, ever). Download it and check it out.

I downloaded a song (Wish You Were Here) that Led Zepplin played... IT actually sounded quite good... Also, once I saw STP in concert and they opened with Shine on... Truly amazing...

This seems like a godd place to vent this. The other day I was at a friend's house and accidentally heard Kitty doing Run Like Hell. It pissed me off so much! I don't like cover bands that much to begin with, but for a death metal band like that to do a Floyd song? What the F***?!? I can at least respect when the Dead or even Phish do it b/c they come close to the right sound, but that really got me hot (of course I mean angry, a bunch of chicks with raspy voices isn't too sexually stimulating)

Ween and Covers of Pink Floyd

Floydians,

I agree with Thorin that a cover should sound different. I downloaded the Kittie cover of Run Like Hell and it just sucks...although they do have some melody of the slow part.
I dont like covers in general, although the Class of 99 did a cover of Another Brick in the Wall (Layne Staley from Alice in Chains) that is pretty good considering I never was a HUGE fan of the original song.
Also, I dont think Led Zeppelin did a cover of Wish You Were Here (I think its mislabeled).
The reason I started the thread was to get opinions of the Ween live performance which utterly shocked me. I can understand the average garage or big name band redoing the majority of the simple Floyd songs, but Echoes is just a true masterpiece and very complex. The casual Floyd fan wouldnt nor could attempt playing the song in its entirety, let alone do it very well as I feel Ween (whoever the hell they are) has done.

Different is different. A Nissan Sentra is different from a Ford Taurus. That's different. But to compare the Kitty verson of RLH is like comparing a Nissan Sentra to a military issue Humvee. To quote Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, "That ain't no ballpark either...ain't even the same sport"
