Head f*k- had The Beatles been 4 fat ugly guy's would they have been so successful?

I'm sick of arguing with Terry Abbott about who is better the Floyd or the beatles, he always states The Beatles' success as a major factor in why they are better than the Floyd were I suggest it's how the music sounds, for my argument I tell him if The Beatles had been 4 fat, gruesome scally's they would have only been half as successful as they were, if that. Look at Gareth Gates out selling Rick Waller who had the finer voice, image and sex appeal won it for Gates. The music didn't feature.

Yes. While the British Invasion and their early touring certainly launched their success, the complete turnaround that came with Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's actually distanced many of their original fans and succeeded on its artistic merits rather than on the faces that graced the sleeves. Additionally, do you really think Ringo is that much of a looker?

i was about to say, aside from maybe Paul, none of them were conventionally handsome. George looked the best out of any of them, methinks, especially around the time Abbey Road was made.

they may have been fairly unattractive by todays standards - I.T men if you like, but they were marketed as a good looking, boys next door pop band. Floyd were initially styled as sex symbols but the psychadelic element at the time didn't really appeal to pre-pubescent girls ergo Floyd didn't get established as a popular mainstream act, whereas the Beatles had already aquired a huge fan base to help maintain their popularity through there psychadelic era(some gave up on them) it's similar to Robbie Williams, he already had plenty of admirers through his Take That tenure so starting from scratch was made a lot easier.
