| Vague Questions.... I have a vague as hell question.... Does anyone know much about the nature of the band after Syd left and the rest had to start working harder, as in songs and everything? Have any clue what Roger was experiencing? I wonder, how was the dynamic at that point, and how was the transition, however simple or drastic, so well pulled off? I guess I just need to listen to more of the Floyd of that time... A Saucerful... in general. As for the moment, I'm standing by the Nile, seeing the lady smile... |

| Re: Vague Questions.... From what I've read, the band was just trying to make a living. Given that their management had given up on them (in favor of supporting Syd), it was a pretty bold move. Initially, both Roger and Rick tried thier hand at writing singles for the band, with the more group oriented compositions being album tracks. Of course, now the album tracks are the famous ones, and some of their early singles are incredibly difficult to find. After a few experimental years, they dound the 'classic' Floyd method: jam out a few ideas, form them into some kind of shape, and Roger polished them off with lyrics and themes. (Overly simplified version, btw) Floyd was lucky to live in a period when a record label was willing to give a band a few years to try to make a success. It probably didn't hurt that they were always a popular live act. |
