| Gilmour cocked up on Jools Holland. Did anyone see Dave Gilmour f**k up on Jools holland a while back. It was a plug for one of Jools' selections on his new album. Mica Paris was singing, Jools was on piano and Dave was playing lead guitar. The balls up happened near the end of the song, Dave erupted in to this complex jazz solo and half way through it he accidently caught a few strings which gave an awful twang sound. The big man went bright red, I could literally feel the Brian Dennehy look-alikes embarrassment. At the end of the song Jools gave Dave the dirtiest look. I just thought P**s off Jools, the mans far more important than you are. Did anyone else witness this and feel Dave's pain. |

| Re: Gilmour cocked up on Jools Holland. From Radiomute.com Epistle to Dippy Mr. Gill, It is so very, very obvious that all you care about on this thread is trying to prove that Pink Floyd was a huge influence on the Beatles. I don't know why that's so important to you, but it's one of the most absurd notions I've ever seen on this or any music forum. The facts are completely, entirely the opposite, and it's way past time for you to face those facts and quit living in a pointless illusion about it. It's no shame to Pink Floyd that they were influenced by the Beatles, and it's to their credit that they took that influence and absorbed it so well, creating their own very original voice in the process. But to deny that the Beatles were a major influence on Pink Floyd is simply to deny history and reality. Pink Floyd was a great band in their own right. I'm happy to concur with that, because their music speaks for itself on the matter. But they did not exert a major influence on the Beatles. They were simply too late in the game for that. Psychedelic Syd, myself, and others have the clear facts of history on our side, and you're simply too infatuated with Pink Floyd to care about the facts. Also, it's obvious that you begrudge the Beatles their popularity and legendary status, apparently thinking that Pink Floyd have been cheated thereby. All this is so silly. To begin with, Pink Floyd have through the years enjoyed a fiercely devoted fan following who have regularly sold out their concerts. "Dark Side Of The Moon" enjoyed the longest unbroken time on the Billboard album charts of any album in history. "The Wall" is among the highest acclaimed double albums of all time, and has enjoyed very respectable sales. As for your latest contention that Pink Floyd's music is "timeless" and the Beatles' music is "dated", I must very strongly disagree. For many, many people, Pink Floyd are the 70s defined. Their sound is very much "of its time" and their albums recorded in the 70s could never be mistakened for the music of another decade by an informed listener. The studio technology and production values of those albums have "A.O.R. 70s" written all over them. Once again, you're simply trying to make Pink Floyd into something larger than what they are, which is completely unnecessary since we all agree that they're hugely important and made great, great music. In other words, what is your damned problem, Gill? Pink Floyd doesn't NEED for you to change the facts of history to make them bigger than they are. They're a rock legend, assured of a well-deserved place in music history, and no one here is arguing that or saying it is in the least degree undeserved. As for the Beatles, they fully deserve their legendary status as well, and as Psychedelic Syd has already emphasized, their best and most mature work is every bit as timeless as Pink Floyd's. Nothing you can say will change that, no matter how neurotically you want it changed. You seem to think that anyone who disagrees with you is anti-Floyd. That's just as pointless as your refusal to accept the facts of history. I happen to be a true fan of Pink Floyd. One of the most enjoyable concerts I ever attended was when my brother and I attended a Pink Floyd stadium gig in the early 90s. It was a sonic and visual experience of the first order, and I've never regretted going. I have most of their albums, and totally respect their accomplishments. But I'm not going to let anyone get away with inaccuracies such as those you have tried to propagate on this thread. __________________ Peace, Reverend Rock It appears Matty has pissed off another forum.
