But if understod correctly. The sound is different when you use different types of wood on your neck? How can that be?

Re: Guitar Forum

Yes that would be pretty well it as far as finish goes for the AmDelux series but I believe you can still buy a Yellow Strat in another model

Sound and why it's different? I not sure I can give you an exact physics lesson on this, but to keep it relatively simple, different woods have different tonal qualities. Rosewood is somewhat more porous then say Maple and therefore more absorbant of sound waves probably soaking up the higher bandwidths to give the guitar a darker and somewhat more mellow sound, again this is my understanding and may not be the exact science. I play through a YCV40 Traynor w/12" speaker with a twin 10" speaker extension cab. Using the same settings on both guitars and amplifier I find a notable difference in the spectrum of low to highs, I think this is why Gibson does not offer maple fretboards on their LesPaul line as the guitars' sound would probably be very close to the so called Fender sound and would render the premium price paid for the LP line somewhat frivolous

Re: Guitar Forum

What other models? What other model should i think of? I havent tried any of them
But its very hard for me to get to try the guitars. With different necks..i dont have a guitarshop in town with more then 10 guitars...
And a question. With my Squire MIC guitar i feel it very hard sliding and holding the different riffs and so on. But when i try my brothers Jackson (dont know which, cost about 10000 or something) its another feeling. I slide much easier. Same with my friends les paul. And its something with the strings(?), it just feels bether. So the question is, Does the squire feel like the deluxe or other fenders?

Re: Guitar Forum

It really has nothing to do with the strings but everything to do with set up ie string height is the neck straight also fret size has a wee bit to do with it as well? Again Ablaze why you fascination w AmDelux, Fender makes numerous models of Stratocaster I would suggest you browse once again through the Fender web site products pages and gain a more complete understanding of models offered in the Strat Line up or other models offered, if you like the Jackson but still want a Fender try a HH Showmaster if you like the feel of the LP try a Custom Telecaster HH SE, LesPaul sound and feel for Fender money

I don't know where you live but if you can get to a major city that has more than one music store take a day or two indulge yourself, go shopping and try some different guitars out, but it all comes down to what feels good in your hands, looks are totally unimportant they wont make you a better player or help you write music... Good Luck with it

Re: Guitar Forum

This could all be solved with a guitarshop. But then i have to travel for 2 hours. To maybe find one. Im in norway for god sake. I found one in Oslo, our capital, but thats 6 hours from me.
And if i shall try so many different guitars, the tele, strats and so on. I hardly think i can find a shop with all those. But i think the point of this this thread is for me to understand a bit of how guitar works with the neck. But also to get the info about what guitars which have all around sounds. I wanna play floyd, and all sorts of music. Dont want a metal guitar which feels good. I want a all around fender which feels good...

Re: Guitar Forum

Ablaze, The fact that you live in a remote part of Norway means you are just going to have to take a chance on getting something you like via mailorder.
I'm certain you would be pleased with a Strat, they are versatile and probably the most loved electric guitars in the world. But they are all individual; they all sound a little different, depending on the factors that Marco pointed out: The type of wood it's made from, the neck, the pickups, strings, etc. I have 3 strats, a Squire, a Mexican, and the AmDeluxe. Each sounds a bit different. But all sound good. For anyone to tell you exactly what to get would be akin to picking out a girlfriend for you based on what they think is attractive.
I think marco's point was that American Standard Strats are good too, and give you additional colors to choose from, if that's so important. Apparently the Deluxe's colors are changed from year to year, to give them a special individuality.
Or, you could order from the Custom Shop, if money is not a problem.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you can modify Strat's easily. Pickups, pickguards, tuners, action and even necks are easily changed.

Re: Guitar Forum

Or...he can save up for a cheapo-Euro flight to London and drool himself stupid in Tin Pan Alley just off the Charing Cross Road, near Tottenham Court Road. (if you've got high-speed connection you can see a panoramic video of this very area: Denmark St, W1 (Tin Pan Alley))

They've got hundreds and thousands. A guitarist's dream...or worst nightmare?

Re: Guitar Forum

Wow! How cool is that?!

BTW, I thought Tin pan Alley was in NYC. Is the London version a copy?

Re: Guitar Forum

Byron, It would probably be more of a nightmare as I would never be able to leave

Ablaze, my first preference is maple fretboard I find them smoother and so faster as a result, my playing style involves lots of sliding, bending and vibrato which is Daves' style as well, it just seems to me that there is less friction from the fretboard when sliding and bending. Stratmans' nick is because he plays and loves Leos' brainchild as I do and when he tells you that customizing a Strat is simple believe him. A couple of screwdrivers and a few easily acquired custom parts and voila a unique guitar

Re: Guitar Forum

Marco: that's what I thought about it as well: a kid in a candy store. But to quell the nightmare you could always just loiter about the place, drooling yourself stupid.

stratters: yeah, cool isn't it?

Um... re. Tin Pan Alley, I cannot be sure which is the original, but let's see, London, 2000+ years old, NYC, 300+ years old. I'll say London.

p.s. the guitar street in the panoramic view (Denmark Street) is to the right of the Borders Bookstore.
