Most Mature Floyd Fan?

This may be an odd question, but I recently had my curiosity piqued by something I saw in the other forums on an unrelated subject. How old is the oldest person you know who listens to Pink Floyd? Family member, friend, someone you saw at a concert?

Pink Floyd might or might not have a universal appeal... Who could say? But I know my dad (he's about to turn 70) has never even heard of them, while my generation grew up with them and pretty much everyone my age can at least sing along with the Wall. I also keep seeing the younger members posting that their friends, even those into 70's and 80's music, aren't that familiar with Floyd.

So, as silly a question as it may be, I'm curious about the range of ages that find Pink Floyd appealing.

One of my employees, he's in his mid 50's , like PF. He's the oldest I am aware of.

My grandpa, who is 88 yrs old, heard "Any Colour You Like" and said it sounded OK. He's no Floyd fan, but he's damn old.

Re: Most Mature Floyd Fan?

I suspect the upper limit would be around 60, maybe 65... My dad likes "Wish You Were Here" (song, not album), but can't stand anything on DSotM - and if you asked who it was, he wouldn't know or care.

Most would probably fall in Fulghum's employee's group, mid-50's... and I've seen Cheese's pictures, he ain't a day over 85.

A friend's dad saw Floyd in the late 60's with Sid. He's in his mid 60's now. By far the oldest I know of. Every time I see him I tell how lucky I think he is.

And that's a well-preserved 85, at that.

Re: Most Mature Floyd Fan?

My best friend's dad is about 45 or so.. he saw Pink Floyd at Vanderbilt in 1995? or 1994 I believe he said.. I'm not sure. Anyways, he was telling me last night actually about how there were only 2 concerts ever at Vanderbilt, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones. He said he saw them both, but that all the other concerts were cancelled because of the sound.. pretty cool huh?

It would have to be, for Cheesus.

I think the member pink floyd is probably the eldest of our own here, but we've not heard from him in ages and ages.

Then there is, of course, the Unholy Congregation of the Aged who are worrying 50 with a long stick, but that's it for me.

But as for maturity...hmmm...PASS!

Awesome, as I was never in the right place to see the whole band... Excepting, of course, the implication that 45 is OLD....

Re: Most Mature Floyd Fan?

I'm the oldest full-blown PF fan I know of. (58) Although Robert Wyatt is older.

I doubt there are many fans older than the band members themselves.

Re: Most Mature Floyd Fan?

Strat you have me by a decade, I don't know why but I thought it was the other way round!

To the original Q? A guy I used to work with who will be 62 shortly is a fan although not as rabid as those here, interesting to note, he is a practicing musician as well Jazz and Big Band stuff!
