Genesis, Peter Gabriel recommendations

Based on what I've read in several other threads, I decided to purchase "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway." Wow! I knew it was going to be good, but didn't expect it to be this great! I'm still in the process of "breaking it in."

Before I bought this I had been a casual fan of Peter Gabriel (owning 1 and So). Listening to Genesis has also inspired me to get out those albums and listen to them more, again.

But I was wondering if you guys could possibly give me a few recommendations as to what I should get as my next Genesis/Gabriel album. Thanks!

It's very early Collins-era Genesis - well, some of it is Gabriel-era Genesis songs with Collins on vocals, but I have a deep and abiding fondness for the live double set "Seconds Out".

I hate Collins era Genesis, the slap-headed midget ruined a decent band imo! As for Gabriel, I've got his first three solo efforts (and well worth checking out they are too) but I sort of lost interest after that.

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of Collins-era Genesis either, at least not after A Trick of the Tail, which I quite like. I think that was before Collins really developed a large influence. And his voice was really lovely back then.

if you liked Lamb, I think OVO is the next logical choice as far as PG goes. another concept album, and one of my favs. i'm also in the process of exploring Genesis and PG solo efforts. Must say, I really have only liked the one album by Genesis (Lamb) and all else has not been my cup of tea. Solo PG hasn't been bad, bust I mostly like the stuff on his greatest hits (Shaking the Tree). 'So' wasn't bad, I guess.

If you are a fan of Gabriels solo works I just picked up a relatively new release called "Gabriel". It's a two disc retrospective of his solo career. Although it does have a bit of his later "MTv" work on it (Sledgehammer, Steam, etc) It does a wondeful job of highlighting some of his extraorinary earlier work. Highlighs are the likes of Solsburry Hill, Don't Give Up, Moribund the Burgermeister, and my personal favorite (worth the entire disk IMO) Biko.

My favourite Gabriel solo album is the third one, it was self-titled over here but I believe it was retitled for the US release. It's the one with Shock The Monkey on.

the album was titled *security* in america

selling england by the pound is probably your next best genesis album to buy. i think *cinema show* is one of the best song genesis ever recorded.
