On "Pink Floyd: Works" released in early 80's. It was written by
Roger Waters (I believe, though wouldn't swear to it).

Re: The Embryo

I'd advise you to check out any of the live versions of Embryo as they are vastly superior to the studio cut

Re: The Embryo

i agree, find the live version from the "Mooed Music" bootleg, youll know you've got it when you hear something close to the following:

"Well, welcome to another rather, special program. And this is one that I and, I hope you have been looking foward to for several weeks now, ever since we knew it was going to happen. We have, The Pink Floyd. (applause)"

that version makes my heart race. i guess thats a good thing.

Re: The Embryo

The version on Mooed Music is the BBC session version which was recorded on July 16th 1970 at the Paris Theatre, London, and it was the first Embryo I heard and it's fantastic - I feel that the version from Montreux November 22nd 1970 just beats it as Roger is doing a lot of Pow R. Toc H. sounds towards the end of the middle section...check both versions out!

Re: The Embryo

It was first played as part of The Massed Gadgets of Auximines in 1968, and was recorded on Picnic, A Breath of Fresh Air recorded in 1970, but I think the live versions are better, Gilmour seems to play a little harder guitar although the vocals are still haunting!

Re: The Embryo

Actually the studio version is unfinished. Pink Floyd lost interest in the song and never completed the recording.

No it wasn't. It was a band song started during the Ummagumma sessions and left alone after the idea for the solo pieces was adopted.

Re: The Embryo

actually Quicksilver, I'm pretty sure that although they had planned to put the song on Ummagumma, it was originally a song preformed earlier than '69, and was first recorded for the BBC Top Gear show on Dec. 2, 1968...although they had played it live for some time previous to this

Re: The Embryo

OK, question that has probably been asked ad infinitum... where do I get my hands on Pink Floyd bootlegs?

Re: The Embryo

The answer remains the same. The internet. C'est ā dire WinMx, EMule, KazaaLite and similar file sharing programs.

Re: The Embryo

There used to be a couple of good places to buy bootlegs in Liverpool but they've all shut....unless Dr Cheese knows of any?
