| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Just been reading this month's MOJO and in it it lists the tracks for the Floyd 'best of' CD as follows - Arnold Lane/See Emily Play/Astronomy Domine/Bike/Set The Controls../Jugaband Blues/One Of These Days/Echoes/Time/The Great Gig../Money/Us And Them/WYWH/Shine On../Sheep/Another Brick../Happiest Days../Hey You/Comfortably Numb/When The Tigers Broke Free/Fletcher Memorial Home/Learning To Fly/Sorrow/Marooned/Keep Talking/High Hopes. Just wondering what people thought of these choices for the 'best of'CD?? With Floyd being such a good band I guess it's hard to narrow down the choice to just 26 tracks, however, what about 'Interstellar Overdrive'??!!! Surely that should be included?? That is one of the greatest songs ever!!And I think 'The Final Cut' is the best song on 'TFC' so I would have like to see that included..and what about 'Coming Back To lIfe' which is one of the most gorgeous songs that it is a travesty to see it missed off the CD!!And I think 'Dogs' is by far the best track from 'Animals', which also isn't included. It is a V.V good selection of course but just feel a couple of others, like the ones I mentioned should be put on it too! (I'm So glad to see 'When The Tigers Broke Free'on there!) | Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD I agree with fixx, and I think it was clever to put them as all running together and change some songs around so the die hards may still want to buy it. I don't want to start another "best of" wish list but I would have some suggestions: "Arnold Lane/See Emily Play/Astronomy Domine/Bike/Set The Controls" -These are the popular pics from the time and this is not my favorite era so I don't really have any complaints about these except that Careful w/ that axe eugene is not here...too long and wonderful i guess Jugaband Blues I don't know about this one... I wouldn't have picked it... maybe because its syd's contribution on saucerful album (I hope my memory serves me) "One Of These Days/Echoes" Oh.. how could either of these be excluded from any 'best of collection' "Time/The Great Gig../Money/Us And Them" Fine picks... no surprise but i would have prefered Brain Damage/Eclipse anchored the album. "WYWH" beautiful... how can anyone not love this song? "Shine On" absolutely the best song ever! no question. I am afraid it will resemble the 'dance songs' version though' really a shame considering all nine parts deserve to be heard in their entirety. "Sheep" -right on! but where's the rest of animals? It all should be on here. "Another Brick/Happiest Days" -Wow. i never would have guessed. certainly the most overrated floyd song... still good though. "Hey You" - "Comfortably Numb" - When The Tigers Broke Free - This song is so beautiful. I love it. very very sad though Fletcher Memorial Home -This would not have been my first pick from TFC. I would say 'TFC' and '2 suns in the sunset' Learning To Fly/Sorrow/Marooned/Keep Talking/ - I would take these songs and keep 'Echoes' and 'SOYCD' at their original lengths. I like them but... well we all have our biases. -Well thats my 2 cents.

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD I was hoping to see brain damage/eclipse on the album, it would have been nice to see these songs end the album in my opion they are the two best album ending songs ever, and I can't believe they choose sheep over dogs. I'm a big fan of the post-waters era but sorrow does not belong in the on this album. If I had to pick 26 Floyd tracks as the greatest sorrow would not come into consideration. Nor would keep talking, on the turning away is a much better choice.

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Hey, is this collector's edition of MOJO even available in the U.S., or is it simply delayed? The October MOJO magazine that I saw does not even come remotely close to mentioning Pink Floyd...

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Hmm... 1) too much Dark Side of the Moon as it is...Time and Money are the obvious (if boring) choices...putting Great Gig In the Sky on a compilation is just weird. It should be the sort of song you have to own the album to hear. I'm glad they left Brain Damage/Eclipse off, too. Yeah, it's called the Best of Pink Floyd, but sheesh, no need to put the entire Dark Side of the Moon on it (no Pulse jabs). 2) As for Animals, it's such a weird album (having three huge songs, none of which really belong on it more than the others since they're all equally known) that it really doesn't matter which song from it they put on. Of course, Sheep happens to be my least favorite track from that album, but such is life. 3) The Happiest Days/Another Brick II? Honestly now...Mother or Run Like Hell would've made a nicer fit, but I guess it's wise to leave some gems on the albums for new fans to discover while giving the compilation something the unenlightened masses will enjoy. Entirely too popular to be on Pink Floyd's Best Of, really. 4) I was expecting Not Now John to be the only track from the Final Cut on it, but I don't like the album enough to care... 5) Odd that One Slip and On the Turning Away were released as singles, but both are subbed for Sorrow instead. I never did understand what people saw in that song, but I guess it isn't that bad a choice. 6) Weird choices from Division Bell, too. High Hopes definitely belongs here. I like Marooned, but it's still a strange choice. Keep Talking, however...I can't believe Dave would even admit he recorded that song, much less feature it on their Best Of. What Do You Want From Me, Take It Back, or Coming Back To Life would have been MUCH finer selections. I'm having trouble believing that from Piper to Division Bell, Keep Talking actually made it to the Best of Pink Floyd. I mean...woah. A lot of grievances, I guess, but that's the nature of a compilation, eh?

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD If what I have heard is correct, "Echoes" is indeed cut down. As for "Great Gig", being a fan of Mr. Wright's, you can imagine that I was overjoyed to see that one of his compositions made it on! I guess, too, that I've been used to playing that song on the piano by itself that it doesn't sound strange to my ear at all. (I just got a guitar last week...but somehow I think I'll always be a keyboard player at heart.)

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Lucifer Sam is a classic. It should have made it. I wanted to see The Gunners Dream ont he album. Was suprised that Astronomy Domine was added to it, good lookin out as far as Syd Barrett goes. Not so smart tracks: Flether Memorial Home, I would replace this at an instance. Arnold Layne, it's too 'old school' might as well have put an Ummaguma track instead. Tracks that should have made it: once again. The Gunners Dream Welcome To The Machine Fearless Mother I had just seen the infomercial on CBS, $26.95, speacial TV offer. I think IT WILL be in stores soon. Might go out and buy it. I wonder who gets the profit/sales that the band makes? Do theys till split it four ways because I don't think the companies of each song were the same.

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD I don't know, to me it sounds a bit too 'Beatles' like. Even the way they delivered it. Just sounds really old. Maybe its because I'm not a big fan of pre-1970s ERA. One

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Hey, Lucifer Sam, is the order of names in your signature line supposed to be a ranking? If it is, we may have something in common...!

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD That really came out of nowhere. That would be unfortunate if Echoes is cut down. If they take out that whole screaming guitar bit... I will be upset. But I can't really see them putting both Echoes and Shine On on there in full. At least part of them will be on there, for new floydians to discover, and possibly then seek out the complete versions. I would have preferred if they hadn't put Happiest Days on there. I understand Another Brick, but is Happiest Days really necessary? |

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD yes it is, Floyd. - The PF tunes that I was addicted to had and must have Rick's keyboards on the track. Thus far, I just like this guy, his solo's are great too. If not Waters' attitude, I'd like this guy alot more, despite the fact I enjoy his lyrical ability. Rest is self-explanatory. As far as this, how is it different from Collection of Great Dance Songs and PULSE? _________________ [Wright-Gilmour-Mason-Waters-Barrett]

| Re: 'Echoes' Best Of CD Ah, it's always good to see another fan of Mr. Wright's! They really seem to come out of the woodwork here, and I like that. I'm afraid I can't rank them all as well as clearly as you can, but Mr. Wright is definitely my favourite as a person. Given the chance to meet a Floydian in the flesh, I'd meet with Mr. Wright. Besides...I'm partial to the player of my first instrument! I just got a guitar, but even if I end up more proficient in that than at keyboards (I'm trying to learn the guitar without all of the bad habits I have on the piano!), I will always be a keyboardist at heart. There IS a very obvious difference when Mr. Wright is absent. Sometimes I feel I'm the only one who notices it, but you clearly do as well. Sometimes Mr. Wright manages to hit a note that is so perfectly timed, so beautiful, that I end up crying. His absence, though, is very noticeable as well. I very much like "The Final Cut"...except for the fact that I think the keyboardist(s?) does not care what he is doing. In fact, one of my pet projects on the piano is called "The Final Cut: Theme and Variations", where I try to play as if (while I do not claim to duplicate the RWr sound) the keyboardist were a bit more impassioned. As for the other Floydians, all I will say is that I respect each for their talents. (Though I respect Mr. Waters greatly, and I think he's got better about it over the years, he screwed Mr. Wright over, plain and simple. It was completely uncalled-for; I don't care if the guy really WAS lacking for ideas at the time. Oh, and if you go to my website, you'll see that Mr. Waters STILL won't let him alone...click on the WWW button on my post, go to Mr. Wright's page, and read the FloydWaters Commentary. I would be very interested to hear your take on this theory I have...) _________________ "But now the day has broken, can see in better ways, A path leading to the light, a hope that never fades.
