Stevie Ray Vaughan

I searched around but I didn't find a thread for Stevie Ray. I think it is safe to say he is one of the greatest blues players of all time. He is probably my biggest musical influence. His stuff after he sobered up is really good, but I am more partial to Texas Flood and Couldn't Stand The Weather. So what is your favorite SRV album and song? My favorite album is Texas Flood, and my favorite song is probably the title track. Another great one is Rude Mood. The Austin City Limits DVD is amazing too.

My dad's a real big fan of him. I know he's got Texas Flood and some live album. I got a bootleg of his very last show for my dad's birthday. Personally I not into him that much, maybe because I'm a keyboardist and not a guitarist. But he sounds very talented!

I'm a big SRV fan, and voted for Texas Flood. "Lenny" is my fav song on the album.

The Sky Is Crying is a close 2nd.

I think Soul to Soul was his weakest, he was having major drug & alcohol problems then.

I am a huge SRV fan, have been forver. I called a radio show one night when they were discussing great guitar players and threw in my two cents.. I said that on a scale of 1 to 100 I'd rate Clapton at 99, Page at 98. Gilmour at 99, and SRV at about 550. He was nothing short of amazing..

I love all of his stuff but Couldn't Stand the Weather is my pick for his best stuff. I love the title track.

He was the only guy to ever play Hendrix better than Hendrix IMO. His versions of VooDoo Chile and Little Wing are just wondeful.

I would say he is a huge influence on my playing but I can't be that brash.. I am a mear mortal.. If I play till I'm 100 I could never match his touch, his style or his tone..

If you reference other threads you will note that I was at the Alpine Valley show... Rest Well dear Stevie.. You are missed.

It hurts to listen to Stevie Ray - I swear, that guy found notes that don't exist for anyone else.

I like how in some solo's, he'll be playing just a few notes and holding them, and then he just plays a shower of notes. It's not shredding, but just so many notes crammed into such little time, it's just amazing. He does it in Testify and Rude Mood a lot.

I am always impressed with his precise play. Crisp and clear. No sloppiness there. Awesome tone, always.

Huge fan here as well, I was only able to see him once though, he performed as the warm up for Dire Straits/U2 at Varsity Satdium in Toronto, needless to say he totally blew them off the stage

I didn't vote for a fave as all the albumns have their own cache
The most incredible feat of his live playing IMHO is how clean his sweep picking was, I've tried to mimic it over and over but somehow still get all kinds of unwanted harmonics, as do many of the players who use this technique in a live setting.

Although I'm not a guitar player like many of you (other than to pick a few dozen songs out with the dozen or so chords I know on my acoustic guitar), I am also a huge SRV fan. The blues riffs that came out of his guitar and soul are beyond comparison. I couldn't vote for my favorite album, but my fav songs are probably Riviera Paradise and Lenny.

I recall the day I heard he died. I was at work and my wife called me to tell me. It was a sad day for sure. For my buddy, Fulghum - it must have been an especially sad day...

I thank SRV for all of his wonderful music that we have to remember him by.

I saw John Mayer on Conan O'brien playing with Buddy Guy and Double Trouble. It was so weird seeing them without Stevie. It was good though.

there is nothing cooler than a white boy playing the blues. but John Mayer seriously needs to work on his voice.

Yeah John Mayer has an okay voice but it's not original at all.

My dad got me into SRV and that's when I started getting into music.

yeah he's pretty good. But I didn't like the one album where they both played. It was too country
