Syd Barrett

With a dark stare you see mad things
gazing into the dark globe
…without hope
emptying of thought and emotion

Your hair confused
sitting in a vacant room
listening to a distant chime
which doesn’t clang

A madcap of genius
a rarity of talent
Terrapin, Golden Hair, Octopus
meaningless chatter and gossip

The years have passed
a loss of time
your memory forgotten
as a life’s dream vanishes

But there are some
who read through the lines
able to follow your distant drum
unwilling to accept the obvious
