Alice in Chains

I couldn't find a thread on this great band either. I just got into them, I have "Dirt" and "Jar of Flies". They are all very talented musicians. A few days ago I found out that Layne Staley was dead and I was really dissapointed. What are some of your favorite AIC songs? My favorites are "Again", "Dam that River", and "Rotten Apple"

They're a damn good band. Their self-titled album is a very good one.

AIC only have 5 albums...in order of release it would be Facelift, Sap, Dirt, Jar of Flies, Alice in Chains (self titled.) I think they are all good albums but their last is definately the worst of everything they released. They had a great song called "what the hell have I?" which was on the Last Action Hero soundtrack. As far as I know that is the only place to find that song unless it's on a greatest hits cd. And if you are a big fan of Layne Staley you might want to check out the band "Mad Season" it features Layne on vocals and Stone Gossard/Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam on guitar and bass. The drummer is some guy i've never heard of from the Screaming Trees. If i remember right, this album was recorded shorty after the Jar of Flies EP. It's a VERY cool album that sounds just like Alice in Chains. The song River of Deceit on that CD is excellent.

Oh yeah...and as for favorite songs:
Sea of Sorrow, Right Turn, Rooster, Nutshell, What the hell have I?

First of all, you should get the Unplugged performance and listen to "Down in a Hole" ****ing awesome.

Good songs are "Frogs" "Rain When I Die" "I Stay Away" and "Heaven Beside You"

Other than Floyd,
the Alice in Chains Unplugged CD (I believe it was for MTV).
is one the Very Best and my Most Favorite (next to Days of the New)

Yeah and at the beginning of last year (2002) - me and my concert buddy heard an ad (only once) on the radio that AIC would be playing at the Roxy. We were soooo excited, but we couldn't find out the date. The news of Staley's death was devestating.

I've been an Alice fan for many years and I have all their 9 official releases, plus their box set, plus their DVDs, plus all of Jerry Cantrell's solo material and the Mad Season album. So picking a favourite song would be kind of like finding a needle in a haystack, but currently I'm enjoying the Live compilation (2000) a lot. I've had it for a while, and I popped it back in a few weeks ago and I was blown away.

If any of you here like Alice In Chains, I strongly strongly recommend buying Jerry Cantrell's "Degradation Trip, Volumes 1&2". It is an amazing album. I'd almost say the best of this decade so far.

heya guys,
Don't forget the excellent AIC stuff on the "Clerks" soundtrack...

Mad Seasons is one of the greatest recordings to come out of the whole seattle thing as well!!! I see others have recommended it and I heartily agree...

AIC are cool. I'm not a huge fan like some of you, but I did see them live in 1992, opening for Van Halen. They were great to see, didn't do much on stage, just played some kick-ass tunes. Layne had his hair in a big purple faux-hawk, it was hilarious.
My favourite has always been the Sap EP. I listened to that CD alot when it came out. It's also the only other disc I have, along with a single Best of from the box-set.
Man In The Box, Rooster, Would, would also rank as some of my faves

Actually, the song "Got Me Wrong" is also available elsewhere. It was originally released on the Sap EP in 1992, and has appeared on a few other releases as well.
