Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

Hello there, fellow Floydians:
Regarding this topic, I was quite privileged to have seen Pink Floyd performing live in their Pulse '94 tour. It was back in July 21st. of that year, in the Alvalade stadium, in Lisbon, Portugal. Although I'm not very fond of the "Division Bell" album -apart from "High Hopes" and two or three other songs, the rest is really weak and doesn't match up to the Floyd legacy-, that live show was unforgettable. It was indeed very unique, and I can assure you about that because I've been to a Supertramp concert afterwards and it wasn't the same, since the sheer size of it all, the quality of the sound, the inventiveness of the lights and lasers designs, the pyrotechnics, the inflatable pigs that appear on "One of these days", the circular disc showing the images, I mean everything was just completely overwhelming. To be able to watch a PF live concert is truly the opportunity of a lifetime, and aside from everything I mentioned before, to see them play in that show was one of the most riveting experiences of my entire life.
I'd also like to say that I own the "PULSE" concert on tape, and it's terrific for that kind of show. It's not the same as, for instance, the "Live at Pompeii" gig, but then again the latter is a different kind of show, with a diverse type of energy, atmosphere and intentions, and from a very
distinct era.

Odd how all those things you mentioned, the inflatable pig, the circular disc, the pyrotechnics, were all Roger's ideas, yet he is no longer with the band.

No, no, guys, remember the legal battles? The pig is Rog's idea, but apparently the pig *with balls* is entirely different, and Dave's idea.

Oh yeah, Dave is a frigging genius.

That was sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

I have PULSE vid and I think this is awesome. But you must know I love Dave, so the only thing I can complain about the vid is that there are not as much Dave as I want
I'm searching for DSoT (I saw it once on the TV many years ago) and I don't have any other PF vids (except of Pompeii (iiii !!!) so I cannot really compare which is better. Pompeii is fab too, but I have the same complain - I want more Dave !

There's certainly lots of Dave to go round.

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

I bought the Live at Pompeii video yesterday. I was quite surprised by the amount of shots on Nick. There wasn't too much of anybody else in the video. But it's an awesome video. And would make a better DVD.

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

Yeah I can only agree, but on the other hand Nick looks great (love that t-shirt with butterfly !) and there is not a lot of Nick in other vids, so I think he deserved a little attention. Though I'd love to hear Mr Wright speaking too...

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

I get a "read" on Mr. Wright's personality that makes me think he might be uncomfortable with that sometimes. I don't think he does very many interviews on camera.

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

I have a question - does anyone know what the audience is chanting just before Comfortably Numb starts? I thought it was the football chant from "Fearless" on the "Meddle" album, but I just played them side by side, and they're not the same. Is this chant a staple of most Pink Floyd shows? I saw them on the Division Bell tour, but I don't remember chanting! Thanks!

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

Ummm, I don't know if you mean the song "Bring the boys back home" or on side 4 before "In the flesh (Pt 784)".

Im sure that, before the latter, the audience are shouting "Hammers" in one channel and "Pink Floyd" in the other.

I don't have my copy of The Wall handy, so I'm not sure if it contains the lyrics to "Bring...".

Cheers,

Mark

Re: Pulse tour back in 1994

Guess I should have been more specific - I was asking what the audience was chanting on the "Pulse" live album just before Comfortably Numb starts... Anyone?
