Bass Forum I'm sure most of you are aware that I play guitar a bit.... On occasion I've been known to fool around with a bass as well, however I don't own one.. I'm thinking about getting a decent (yet cheap) bass and small amp. Today I was playing and looking at a Samick Fairlane Bass..(FN4M MBM) http://samickguitar.com/bass.html I really liked it, The action was good, nice neck, pickups were good, sound very good. The shop has it on clearance for $189.00. I also had it plugged into a Fender bass amp (25 watts RMS) that they had tagged at $209.99... http://fender.com/products/show.php?partno=2315400010 Any thoughts or suggestions on these two???

That's a nice looking bass (I don't know how good it is because I've never tested one of those out.) I play a Fender Precision bass. I tried out alot of more expenisive brands before deciding on the Fender P. The sound quality is just as good if not better then alot of the really expensive basses I tried out. I would just make sure that the bass has nice action and active pickups are always a plus.

I used to have a Samick of some sort or another, and while I don't pretend to know anything about the one you've an eye upon, all the Samick I've ever run across are rather shit. The necks warp pretty quickly, the electronics fall apart, etc. That's only my experience, however. Currently I play a Carvin LB75 and it's loverly.

I like playing bass. Floyd songs are fun to play on bass. I've heard that Samicks suck though. I'd just get a fender if i were you.

I've been wanting to get a bass lately, too. I really want a Rickenbacker, but they're expensive! So I'll probably get a Fender Jazz Bass or an Epiphone SG bass.

if you're just learning, don't go out and spend a load of money on an incredibly nice bass. i like the one you've chosen, it should be good for learning. shouldn't be too difficult for you since you said play guitar a bit. might be a change for you if you're used to only playing chords. if you know chords, i'd suggest walking up and down the chords to get your fingers used to playing. should be a good start. good luck and have fun!

Not that I'm in the know or anything coz I just started playing 5 weeks ago(at the ripe ole age of 102).IF you buy crap you'll play crap,T'was what i was told, now me being Scottish, not being cheep mind you, I started off with a fender squire 20th anniv bass pack $289, Bass, 15w amp and a bloody video, spent another 10 bucks on a teach yersale book.5 weeks and 6 songs (2 being floyd) later, am now looking at a used washburn 5 string. If ye wanna play u play,if ye wanna fart around buy a wash tub an a string. only joking.

that might be true, but if you're willing to buy a bass and try it out, you don't want to go overboard and buy something expensive that'll just sit in the closet after a few weeks. and i can also say that you don't need to spend a load of money to learn. don't buy a complete piece of crap (that'll just sound bad and discourage you). but don't waste your money either.

Re: Bass Forum I was playing a freinds bass the other day and decided im gonna buy one after christmas. I am a drummer, I guess you could say im pretty descent for 14 years old. I also play guitar a little, I have got a couple guitars and a couple amps. But I think I want to learn how to play bass now, I will still keep drums as my main instrument. But anyway, I need some suggestions on what to buy and stuff. I want to get a bass that is pretty good but not too expensive, and I want to get a big amp, something that will play over drums and wake up the neighbors. Please help.

Re: Bass Forum I took a glance through my latest American Musical Supply catalog, and Peavey makes some good basses for a very reasonable price. Check out the Millennium BXP ($220) or the Millennium AC BXP (with active PU's) for about $300; Peavey Grind NTB for about $370. I think any of those would do you well. From the same catalog, Behringer's UltraBass BX1200 amp (120watts & lots of features) is going for about $200. Check those out. http://www.americanmusical.com/item-...CBXP4-MAR.html http://www.americanmusical.com/item-...LBXP4-TGR.html http://www.americanmusical.com/item-...RNTB4-NAT.html Last edited by stratman; 10-24-2005 at 12:09 AM.
