Apparently, he also wanted some of their material for 2001: A Space Odyssey as well. Imagne, a mainstream Pink Floyd playing music in some of the top films of the day.

I doubt he was aware of the Floyd's existence in 68-69 when selecting music for the film. But don't listen to me, I'm convinced that they recorded Echoes after looking at the film with a stopwatch...
