| Heroine and Comfortably Numb First off, just listening to this song reminds me of being on a downer. If you look at the song as waters heroine addiction talking to him it makes perfect sense. During the verse it is talking to him and convincing him to shoot up. He shoots up and the chorus kicks in, the song explodes and he's off in a dream world an instrument solos for a while then it shifts back to the verse and the tone changes back to a depressed/sick feel, there's even a mention of a pen prick back and forth between sickness and a dreamy paradise...

Straight answer: It's well-covered in the movie, nervous breakdown, emergency medical intervention, etc. Wiseass answer: I didn't know Roger Waters had a heroin problem. Really wiseass answer: I freakin' HATE Scarlett O'Hara...

| Re: Heroin and Comfortably Numb who said he had a problem? i guarantee you that if he didn't try heroine, he either smoked opium or took a strong downer of some sort im saying the song has too many parallels to someone doing opiates to be coincidental and just because the movie has him going to the hospital and such doesn't mean thats all they had in mind when writing the song...pink doesn't do any drugs in the movie but is obviously not sober the movie obviously couldn't show him doing any hardcore drugs

| Re: Heroin and Comfortably Numb I had a huge argument about this very thing with my brother. He had had a revelation that Comfortably Numb was about heroin addiction and would not be convinced otherwise. Whatever you want to think, it really doesn't affect anything. |

Um... Where to start? You referred to Waters' heroin addiction as though it is a fact, whereas I'm unaware of any evidence of such a thing. Addiction, in the medical sense, is by definition a problem. So my answer is that you said he had a problem, yourself. If that's not what you meant, my fallback position is that I also noted it was a wiseass answer I gave. The movie was written around the album, but is not the same story. That part, however, is pretty much dead on, per what the band has had to say about it. Gilmour wrote the music for "Comfortably Numb", and there is some controversy over precisely what Waters' contribution was. Since the people credited for writing the song don't agree, and no one watched them do it, I guess we'll never know. In the 60's, 70's, and even the 80's, drug use was a common theme in (at least) American films. I'll be happy to provide references, if you like. It's like this: You see parallels between the song and heroin addiction. You don't have anything to offer other than your personal inferences, so far. Do you have anything to back that up? By the way... This really isn't a new argument. Try a search of the site.

| Re: Heroin and Comfortably Numb All of you are wrong, wrong, wrong!!! Waters' was no junkie!! How the hell can you write legendary music while in freakin' La-La Land? Anyway, any fool knows he was an acid head, and Comfortably Numb is about a flashback. Juniors..... (Yes, I'm using sarcasm.)

| Re: Heroin and Comfortably Numb Hmmm... yes... I see how you could surmise that it's about drug taking and all that kind of stuff. Forget the fact that at this point in the movie the drug is a pick me up to get Pink out of his spazz attack after trashing his hotel room. The guy is on the edge at this point, very close, I feel, to putting an end to it. Instead, he shaves his head clear, becomes Pink The Fascist, has his little pep rally, and then puts himself on trial and tears down the wall he has hidden behind. No heroin there, unless Pink shoots up before trashing the hotel room. But I don't think heroin would produce that kind of rage. Finding out your wife has been ****ing around might. That or meth anthetamine. Though I'd be pissed off if my wife was getting jiggy with some other man. That and having a smothering mother and a school teacher from hell (now the latter I had happen to me... if I saw that bastard on the street, I'd probably punch his lights out). So yeah. No heroin.
