Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Percieve, I must say i'm a fan of Jazzy Music - and Sheep is up there for me.

And who couldn't love the intermediate section where the Bible is spoken so melachonly yet so entrancingly? -Well I guess you eh? - but that' my opinion.

Anyway I think it AT LEAST fits in to the album...."Bleating and babbling they feel on their necks with a scream".

Bah.

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

I'll have to say NAY FOKES!!
Animals was a great musical dissapointment for me, and the lyrics didn't made it for me to make it up. That album didn't grow on me until today. That's why I still don't like this album. Maybe I should give this album another chance, and one day maybe I will, or maybe it just isn't my taste. But until that day arrives, Animals is not one of my favourite PF Albums...
That's Funny, cause the animals tour actualy interests me as a bootleg collector, cause they Haven't Done all of the Tracks from the WYWH album on the WYWH Tour, but they Did them all on the Animals Tour, and probably as better versions then on the WYWH Tour...

Lo, we shall rise up. And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Hmmm, how about a nes? or a yo?

On my Pink Floyd scale, it's somewhere in the middle. It wasn't incredibly great, but it wasn't too bad. Dogs and Pigs are great, so is Pigs on the Wing. Sheep isn't that great. But the album overall isn't is as good as other albums.

Didn't you say that already Charade?

Surprised to see people with Sheep as their favorite song off the album.

But I'm guessing that Pigs (Three Different Ones) is your favorite track off the album, ha ha, charade you are?

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Shessh your right Radiochair - seems that i need to start writing alot more, I need to find more time I guess.

Well ok how is sheep good?

Now i've already talked about the Jazzy part.

But in relation to the 'themes', I think this song is really the ultimate exploitation of the themes in the novel "Animal Farm", aswell. In the book none of this 'rise up' stuff occurs, yet here we see the "sequel", IMHO. We now see how masses can in fact use sheer numbers to overwhelm a more creative and intelligently corrupt system. Well then, if this "communism" has been brought to it's knees and this "bleating and babbling" sheep take over, can't it be expected that 1. the sheep will find no real governement (put this stuff into context guys, with USSR and such - it'd take too long to write it all out) and eventually amount to nothing or 2. the same cycle will occur - possible a different set of leaders and a different set of underlying classes.

"Pigs on the Wing 1 & 2" relate that what we should take to heart is not just the themes inherited in the album - but rather a more general theme of love, which, though we make it out to be a sign of "nieveity" (ohh however you spell it), seems all together a fairly certain and 'amountable' goal - this is what the Sheep must realize.

Obviously the Sheep couldn't go up to the Dogs and Pigs and say "I love you let's forget all of this"- No, they went to the Bible, and came to a conclusion that they must do something (Mastered the art of Karate), and so Violence overthrew a violent upper class - hopefully to reveal this 'love' concept.

Now of course this is all IMHO, and most of you prob. think it's not correct at all and I'm interpreting the closing of Animals all wrong.

THat maybe so, and it may not be.

Either way, the fact that I find myself pulling so much out of this song and this album is what really counts to me, and this truely makes the album one of "exploration" and one that I can feel comfortable with.

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Well, Charade, I disagree with you. See my Sheep Pigs OR Dogs, topic to see what I think Animals is really about.

But one thing great about music, and art in general, is that it is open to countless interpretations.

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Nice perspective, Charade. (NNJohn, are we following one another round the boards? )

But remeber, in the end, when "Have you heard the news? The Dogs are dead!" that we're all encouraged to stay at home and do as we're told, get out of the road if we want to grow old. Baaa.

That tube station mural haunts me. Perhaps I'm going mad?

Re: Animals- Yay or Nay?

Byron, I believe we are, I'm not worjking today so its an early time for me.

Remember the Dog's life was not a good one, if ya remember he heads down south and grows old alone, dragged doewn by the stone, hindered by the weight he throws around. Its just a hell of a better life to be a sheep, at least that's what I always thought. BAAA BAAA
