The Wall - the original stageshow

I was watching the Berlin version of The Wall the other day and was amazed at the stageshow and Roger playing the character of Pink. This got me wondering - what was the original stageshow like back in 79/80? Did Roger play Pink? What was the point of the surrogate band?

Re: The Wall - the original stageshow

The original stage show was similar in the theatrical aspects, but there were no additional actors, only inflatable puppets. The surrogate band played "In The Flesh?" and then helped Pink Floyd to play: Snowy White or Andy Roberts played rhythm guitar, Andy Bown played bass (Roger was only singing or holding his black Fender about 50% of the time), Peter Woods (or Wood?) helped Rick with keyboards and Willie Wilson backed Nick.

Re: The Wall - the original stageshow

The difference between the original production of The Wall (which I saw twice) and the Berlin travesty, could be likened to having a full body massage by a group of beautiful, nubile young women or repeatedly hitting yourself in the face with a heavy, blunt instrument.

OK, do you want to elaborate on that a wee bit?

Besides what was mentioned above by Neshabur, the "surrogate band" idea came to Roger during the 1977 In The Flesh Stadium Tours, when he imagined that any 4 musicians could stand on the stage and play or mime the music and the screaming unruly idiots in the audience wouldn't care or know the difference anyway.

Well Cheese, You have outdone yourself and i have a newfound respect for your judgement.

That is about the most accurate assessment I have ever seen.
