I have had Animals for almost a year now and I still cant get enough of it. I love the album! But I have heard some negative comments about it as well. I am just wondering whether you all like the album or not?

I think the album posts a view like none other. And the music is outstanding! This is truely a Floyd masterpeice.

It's very good. But drags a bit in the middle sections. It's actually the brother of The Division Bell.

Animals: Y-A-Y!
Any album that includes "Dogs" is worth a yay in my books. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the album is great, but "Dogs" clinches it for me.

I'll have to concur with fixxlevy and give Animals an 8/10.

Wasn't terribly impressed with the start and finish "Pigs on the Wing 1 & 2" but the rest was excellent.

Floyd on!

Animals is 10of10. certainly one of the best in my book. To those who say it drags I understand but see that as a great suspense builder similar to echoes (but certainly a different sounding era). I agree with Wrightkeys in that the live versions do justice to the entire album. The 'In The Flesh tour' is hands down my favorite to listen to. Pigs (TDO) is an absolute marvel live, especially at a certain famous show where the crowd and Roger are both in a quite ruthless mood.

Animals 9.5/10, it was the second PF album I bought.

Pigs On The Wing is lovely, Dogs is just such classic Floyd and Pigs is so bitter it's marvellous.

Sheep does not quite do it for me. It probably would work better earlier in the piece. In all the other Floyd works from this era, the tension builds and builds and is suddenly released (listen to In The Flesh to Brick In THe Wall Part 2 for an excellent example of this).

Sheep doesn't do this which is a shame at the end of an otherwise excellent Floyd album.

At first I hated this album, I thought it was gut wrenchingly terrible, but then TDB came out and put everything in perspective.

Seriously though, it took quite a few listens before I thought of it as a good album. Dogs is a great peice of epic poetry, not to mention musically it aint too shabby either. Pings On The Wing is pretty good too. Sheep is decent enough and Pigs, well it needs improvement, but not too bad. All in all pretty heavy in my rotation.

I agree with fixx, it gets an 8.

I was really really into Floyd and I knew all about this album then bought it and i loved the hell out of it!

So great, one of the best in my mind, in fact I'm listening right now!

BUT YOUR REALLY A CRYYYY!!

And those who say it drags - so does "Echoes", but hell that's a great song!!

All right, I'm gonna give my (completely unsolicited) track-by-track review of Animals. (You'd better fire up the barbecue in advance... )

1. Pigs on the Wing 1 7/10
This song makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I love it. I'm a guitar player, and I'm playing this constantly (to the chagrin of my unenlightened, pronounced "Non-Floyd-fan", friends.) My only complaint is, to me it kinda doesn't fit the tone of the album. Syrup and bile don't go well together.

2. Dogs 10/10
What can I say? F*ckin-A amazing guitar work from Dave, and that "Stone...stone...stone" delay effect (a chant, almost) just mesmerises me when I'm, well, figure it out. That repeating solo (the one he does three times) is easy to play, but it sounds sooooo wild (Like the descending bit in SOYCD, the one that follows the "Shine...on...you cra...zy diamond" vocal tune). This gets in my head at work, and I start singing it, even scatting the solos and drumming on the table, for the whole 17 minutes. My coworkers think I'm insane. Rog's lyrics are amazing, and his singing is even great. Of all the songs from the "Waters Domination" era, this one is second only to Comfortably Numb. In case you didn't notice, I really, really like this song.

3. Pigs (Three Different Ones) 9/10
Another song I just looooove. Musically it's not *that* great, but still worth a 9. The lyrics are what gets me. I'd love to get inside Rog's head and find out where stuff like this came from. (Just by the way, does he have to put at least one curse into every album? Just a thought. Seems Dave's picked up on that as well.) So far, a 26/30 over three songs, until...

4. Sheep 1/10
Gah. Beastly. I know I've got an unpopular opinion right here, but this song just makes me want to scream. "Raving and Drooling", indeed. "Dogs" and "Pigs" are 17- and 12- minute songs that would sound good if they were 30 minutes. "Sheep" is a 10-minute song that would be better off as the length of, say, Pigs on the Wing 1. Again, this album basically lives and dies by the music, not the lyrics. This song...I've got nothing more to say. Flame me if you wish.

5. Pigs on the Wing 2 7/10
As this song is almost indistinguishable from the first, it gets the same score. This song I like because it removes the taste of "Mutton" from my mouth. Thank you.

So, in all, a 34/50. I must be a pretty harsh marker, because this album is #4 on my Floyd list. Hm.

Perceive,

You ever wonder whether the chanting on Dogs is "stone, stone, stone..." or "dogs, dogs, dogs.."? Or is that bit in Sheep? Woof woof!

"Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd ... smiling"

Floyd on!

Never once wondered, dear cow. It's just a really, really long echo. "Dragged down by the stone...stone...stone...stone...ad nauseam"
