Loupgaros--you're not the only one who hasn't tried "mental enhancements". Though I DID have a hallucination once while listening to DSotM: I had been sick for several days, and was so congested I couldn't breathe very well, so I couldn't sleep at night. So not only was I ill, but I was also sleep-deprived. Anyway, I popped in the PULSE version of DSotM, hoping to at least relax.

Well, in the middle of the album (right before "Any Colour You Like" started), I got up for some reason and moved to another chair. Right when I sat down, I closed my eyes for a second--and started hallucinating. I actually watched everything go black, and I cannot even begin to describe the colours that swirled before my eyes! They were beautiful...

My guess is the sleep deprivation and illness caught up with me and I had a momentary delusion. Well, if it had to happen, I am SO glad it happened to "Any Colour You Like"!

As for trances and other naturally-induced altered states of mind, the Floyd is certainly one of the best "guides" for that. Wonderful meditation music--at least, the RWr-influenced stuff is. Animals, The Wall, TFC, AMLoR, and DG or RW solo stuff (though good albums) do not make for good trances or meditation. Those are better for waking contemplation, in my opinion.

Another post from someone who hasn't been under the influence of anything but alcohol (yet )
if you are tired anough and put on either Meddle or DSTOM, turn the lights of and close your eyes the incredible amount of colours you will see and the strange things you will dream is amazing. Just try it

cheers

FloydWright- you have a good point about Animals, The Wall , etc, they definitely do not make for good trances. If anything they are rather scary (at least for the Wall and Animals, I haven't heard RW or DG solo efforts yet) and I wouldn't even try tripping to those albums cos I might see something nasty.

Mr. Waters' solo albums pretty much follow in the tradition of Animals, TW, etc. I wouldn't recommend trying any trances with these albums. The only reason Mr. Gilmour's don't work is not because they're disturbing, but because they're loud.

About the "darkest" think I've ever actually entered a trance to listen to was Broken China. It was not quite the normal one, though--I did cry several times (sometimes I still do). But the amazing thing about it was to almost feel as if I were experiencing events firsthand. That is the power of this album. What saves it from being simply a venture into darkness is the ascension of recovery at the end. And the light is twice as beautiful for knowing darkness...

BTW I didn't mean that DG's solo albums are dark cos I haven't heard them or RW's stuff for that matter. I'm just referring to Animals, The Wall and TFC ( cos I have tried with Animals and the Wall, my recommendation: just don't even try it).

TFC isn't too bad actually, you just come out of it very emotional and feel better for having done it ( I do anyway)

Just thought I'd clarify that.

I'm with 'twatty. To this day that section still triggers mild euphoria.

Some of my PF fratelli are a bit panty-waste when it comes to HARD/DARK Pink Floyd, but there again, I am one for rough seas and heavy trubulence.

Rough-riding Floydian,
Byron
