Waters What Happened?

I'm sorry if this has been posted before but if it has I could't find it. I was just wondering what happened between Waters and Wright/Gilmour to cause the bands split?

Rog got a severe case of over-inflated ego, he wanted to float it over the crowd at their shows in place of the pig but Dave wasn't too keen. Allegedly.

you're wrong! it's because dave told roger that he wanted to make an hip-hop album and dave also wanted roger to do break dancing while playing a disco version of goodbye cruel world. so roger wasn't too keen

Hi. I think it was because pink floyd albums , shows, etc became very mony consuming and luxurious (specially in late 70s and early 80s) and it was in contrast with the initial idea of the group, and I think it wasn't what Roger wanted, so he seperated from the band and as you know most of the money he gathered in his later solo works is dedicated for charity funds.

I think he got sick and tired of the whole Pink Floyd experience and maybe wanted to see if Roger Waters was Pink Floyd. His splitting with the band isn't such a bad thing, though. I quite enjoy Roger's solo work, and the Dave-led Floyd. Christ, if you ignore the bickering and the fact that Dave isn't playing the Comfortably Numb solo on In The Flesh, then you appreciate the fact that you can get twice as much Floyd now as you could back in the 70s... fancy that.

Simple equation.

Waters = x +

Twice as much Floyd?! You've got to be kidding!

Rog has really only put out 3 studio albums and 2 live albums and the Rogerless Floyd have really only released 2 studio albums and 2 live albums. Now of course, there's some random stuff here and there that they've done, but they've really only had 9 albums between them since The Final Cut.

Back in the 70s when they were together, they were doing an album every year or two. It just doesn't add up.

Now, I don't know if that would be any different if Roger hadn't left. But, the fact that he did leave certainly isn't giving us any more material.

Twice as many tours where both bands play Floyd stuff. In one week, you could have seen Pink Floyd and then Roger Waters and heard a pretty damn good selection of Floyd. Now if that isn't value (though I use that word loosely) then really, what is? I couldn't think of any other ex band / band lineups that would prove to be this fruitful.

I wouldn't call two new Floyd albums in almost 18 years particularly fruitful.

As far as I've understood, Roger Waters was utterly selfish since he got aware of being (one of) the best song writer in the world and, clearly, didn't want to share this quality with the other band members any more.
That's all.

Yeah, I agree with Cheese. The only time you could've seen Roger and Floyd in the same week on tour or whatever would've been what? 1987? On the Radio KAOS and MLOR tours, respectively. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the only time that springs to mind as Roger wasn't doing anything around '94 while Floyd were touring off Division Bell.
