Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Good answers.

As to whether she considered my mind weak or overly sensitive, one can only speculate about that. I should have gotten her to elaborate some more on the subject, but I think I was in my "evasive" mode, and just wanted to drop the subject (truth known, I had watched the film a couple of days previous, but didn't want to tell her that). It could very well be that she had experienced a "bad" trip, and/or thought that my head would "explode." In retrospect, I thought it was strange that she would make a statement that provocative right out of the blue...was almost as if she were some kind of dislexic mind reader.

I'm not trying to bang my own drum here, but Shane G. got me re-reading these essays and fixxy said something I missed last time round....

Um...self-discovery through gazing at a chrome tree? In my case, certainly not by watching The Wall, but a tree?

Disclaimer

Was re-reading some of what was written here, and think that perhaps I gave the false impression that I am "pro-drug". While, it is true, I have done some stupid things in the past, and will probably do some stupid things in the future, drugs will not be a part of that decision making process. I am old enough to have seen first hand what drug abuse can do to someone's life, and know at least 3 people who have overdosed on some substance or other and died as a result. I know someone else who was killed for his drugs, and at least one person who died in a alcohol related accident. Also know others who are ruining their lives right now because of drugs--it is sad that it cannot be stopped, but someone in that lost state of addiction cannot be reasoned with.

While it is true that some drugs can be beneficial (when prescribed by a doctor) there are many drugs that have no benefit to human life, and are prone to abuse. Even drugs prescribed by a doctor can be dangerous if abused.

In summary, I apologise to this website for any pro-drug commentary I may have written. Don't be a statistic, don't do drugs.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Sorry to hear about your friends, matey. But, for what it's worth, pharmaceutical drugs are amongst the worst for you. Don't believe the hype, Big Boy.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Thanks, Fixxlevy, I think you may be right. Except for the one who was killed by a drunk driver, they all knew what they were getting themselves into, or at least should have known. I can't make any excuses for them. They were stupid to let their addictions control their lives.

It doesn't bother me if someone wants to smoke a little weed-- it's the injectables, such as heroin, morphene, and cocaine that seem to have done the most damage. I don't think smoking oxycontin or cocaine is good for a body, either, nor is consumpion of large amounts of depressants. I could go on, but really hate to sound "preachy". Just realized the other day that alot of youngsters read this stuff, and I don't want to be a bad example to them.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Hmmm...seems like these last few posts could have done with being in the "Drugs...Yes or No" or "Pink Floyd and Drugs" threads.

I would certainly not actively promote the use of drugs, unless one of you REALLY needed some thorazine - and some of you REALLY do (hmmm...thor...thorazine...?) - but everyone one of us must decide for themselves what they will and will not do.

I did advise kids not to try this at home.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

No worries, "BL." It was just your disclaimer was so strident, I felt it implied my essay was a promotion for drug misuse.

One thing though, and before anyone calls me anal about it, I'm not - if not nipped in the bud, folk learning English may take it as correct - but as an avid fan of my mother tongue, once removed, I feel it needs protecting sometimes:

It's "should have", never "of". :o

It's one of my pet peeves and I see it happening more and more, but excuse me please. Lesson over.

Ha Ha Ha...I fixed it (I think). We Tennesseans have a way of bastardizing languages (it is one of the few things we are good at). There is a prominant "Appalachian" dialect around here--it would drive you crazy.

Don't worry, I also say of instead of have. I also use the word redd, though no one, except those local, know what it means.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Drugs.. are your concern. My bro used to be pretty hit up on joints himself. I've done weed (once in a while, when available etc.) But I've stayed away from hard drugs after I seen the arm of one of my brothers close friends....

the dude had 'slits' all over this inner forearm-elbow area. And I was stupid enough to stay around and ask him as to what it was and he was 'gracious' enough to show me. The marks were caused when he could not find a needle to inject himself. So what he did was to cut open the skin with a razor and 'mainline' the powder over the cut. I threw up on the spot... Surprised the guy... but Oh Lord! Was I sick that day... Ugh! Still gives me bad memories...

Hmmm... I wonder, was this a disturbing dream or actual fiction?
