I always thought Bob Geldof was f**king hot, so...

Anyway, I never should have started reading this. I'm getting all these ideas. Things to put on my to do list, if you will.

Well stop saying of and start saying have, why don't you?

And now you're back, NNJ, you can finally tell me what redd does mean.

p.s. Driven ain't the only one likes being on top.

Redd is a Pennsylvania Dutch (who are actually of German, not Dutch, descent) term meaning to clean or clear. Instead of saying clear off the table, we say redd off the table. Instead of clean your room, redd up your room.

Anymore questions.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

as a matter of fact i have a few.

1. why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway
2. if 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?
3. why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of the drive-up atm?
4. why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?
5. why are there interstate highways in hawaii?
6. why is it that we recite at a play and play at a recital?
7. what is a free gift? aren't all gifts free?
8. why do doctors call what they do "practice"?
9. what happens if you get scared half to death twice?
10. if a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?

can you help me?

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Yeah, I've got just one more for you, NNJ. And you can just ignore all the other scheisse questions from those other two jokers.

If it is a well known or generally acknowledged fact that "Pennsylvania Dutch" folk are actually of German descent, why are they then still called "Pennsylvania Dutch?"

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

Because the German word for German is Deutsch. When the first germans emmigrated they would say they were Deutsch. The Anglos, who were already here for at least 100 years, mistakenly thought they were saying they were Dutch, thus the myth that Central Pennsylvania is inhabited by Holland's descendants.

While this site is mainly about the Amish, it confirms what I just said.

Re: DSOTM x 8 - Dinner Bites Diner!

I think he refers to the confusion that led to the naming of American natives "Indians".
