| Re: Best singing voice?? It would appear that the majority prefer, in order, Dave, Rick, then Roger. I would have to concur, but with the acknowlegement that each has made a significant impact on the Floyd sound. However, Gilmour's voice is unique in that it can invoke the same feelings he can summon with his guitar. Like his guitar playing, he is not technically a fantastic singer...but the sound of Pink Floyd is closely tied to his voice. His is the one voice Pink Floyd can't be without (same for his guitar). Pink Floyd without Gilmour's voice would be like Boston without Brad Delp, or the Rolling Stones without Mick.

| Re: Best singing voice?? It's hard to describe what Mr. Gilmour's voice is--it's as if it's an extension of the guitar...not the other way around! Does that make any sense at all? As for ranking them, you saw why I couldn't do it--because I like them all for different things. By the way, a question on technique when singing DG songs--how do you do that rapid note change without slurring it? Somehow he does a clear series of notes with almost no effort...notable examples: the chorus from "So Far Away" and parts of "Coming Back to Life".

| Re: Best singing voice?? Dave is the best vocalist out of all of them. His voice now isn't as good as it used to be, but I really liked his voice on the recent Meltdown performance anyway. Rick is the most underrated Floyd, I wish he sang more. Roger is better at theatrical kind of songs. Personally, I think Nick may want to belt it out like Phil Collins did in '80s. Only Nick probably won't suck like Phil. |
