Re: The wall concert footage

I believe Roger Waters has sole ownership over all of the concert footage. I think there's a thread identical to this one already floating around somewhere on the forum here.

I can't seem to find the thread now, though. But I do remember what it says. In short: it's unlikely that we'll ever see The Wall's true concert footage--at least, none that we haven't seen already. I think I also remember something about the reels themselves being in rough-to-destroyed condition.

Who knows! I sure don't.

Re: The wall concert footage

Well, if you have the footage on DVD, then just rip it onto your computer if you want to watch it, if you have a DVD-ROM drive. If you don't, then I really don't know of any sites with more than a few seconds of concert footage. And if it was the whole concert, it would be on a tiny little scren with horribly compressed video and audio.

Re: The wall concert footage

If you're talking about the original Wall concerts (and not Roger's Berlin fiasco) you can download the whole show from WinMX or Kazaalite, the quality is extremely ropey though.

If you got a few bucks, you can easily find something on ebay. Just search for "Pink Floyd Live", there's a few different variations out there.

No, they're all gonna be extremely poor I would think, the copy I've got is almost unwatchable.

Re: The wall concert footage

I just got the Nassau Coliseum Wall show on DVD that I ordered through ebay. I'm quite happy with it. No, it's not crystal clear quality, I'd say it's a couple generations in. But I have the same show on VHS and the DVD is much better. A little clearer and better sync.
I've heard that they used the wrong cameras when they filmed it. Or at least, they might not have known how to go about it exactly, which it looks like. But, it's not like there were alot of concerts of this magnitude ever filmed before.
I now have the Earl's Court and the Nassau show on DVD. I'd have to say I prefer the Nassau one. Not as many technical difficulties. Earl's Court also has lots of close-ups. While this may be a nice idea for most shows, it's not such a good one for this show. There are parts where you're staring at darkness for minutes at a time cuz the wall is up and the camera doesn't pan out. "Hey You" for instance, you see nothing.
Nassau is the opposite. There are very few, if any technical glitches. You also get a better look at the whole production, not as many extreme close-ups.
I've yet to see and almost unwatchable copy of either show. But that of course depends on your definition of, "watchable". If you're a stickler for super-clear, hi-fi stereo sound and all that, then you will be dissapointed. "The Wall-1990" would be your best bet there.
But if you don't mind a lesser generation video, they are a great document of a crucial piece of not only Floyd history, but music history. You can probably find them for a decent price to. My Nassau DVD was 18 bucks (american), which worked out to just over 20 dollars for me in Canada.
Of course, you have to have faith in ebay, which not alot of peope do. I have been buying quite a few things off there and haven't had a bad experience yet. In fact I've picked up quite a few very rare and very cool Cd's and DVD's.

I use Ebay quite a lot and have picked up some great bargains and I've not been ripped off yet or anything.

Re: The wall concert footage

I recently bought "The Wall Live at Nassau Colliseum 1980" on VHS at Ebay for $20 and I think it was well worth it, granted the picture is not the greatest in the world, but as was stated earlier it's a piece of history. And the sound of the video's not that bad.

Oh yeah I did want to add one more thing .The prson I bought the video from also sent me a CDR of "The Wall Demos" That was a pretty good deal I think "The Wall Live at Nassau Colliseum 1980" on VHS and "The Wall Demos" on CDR for $20 not a bad deal at all.

Re: The wall concert footage

I got ripped off on Ebay from a Who concert VHS for 30 dollars plus 10 dollars to convert it to NTSC. The picture and sound were horrible, and it kept stopping and freezing. Other than that, it's been great!

Re: The wall concert footage

regarding the so-called wall demos, if it has the song comfortably numb and the trial then this is a fake. I've seen some wall demos with these songs in the track listing.

Comfortably Numb was written too late to be used in David Gilmour's About Face solo project, and The Trial was written in the studio, with help from Bob Ezrin, to tie all the elements in a finale.

Thank you

Re: The wall concert footage

Yeah, about a month ago I looked at this post, and saw how much luck you guys've been having with eBay shows...so I got on an ordered the Nassau and Earl's Court shows for $22 on DVD...I got ripped off baddly. Already, my confidence in eBay dwindles...

Just for future refference, avoid any dealings with an eBay user by the name of "keepitdark." I don't think I really need to get into detail...but I hope I can help other Floydians avoid such an experience as I have...
