Every time

I have seen them twice here in Seattle, once in Dallas. They played a small (no more than 500) venue called the Showbox and played their entire album last July (2003). Of course extending it by about an hour. Effin amazing! Then I saw them on a trip to Dallas at the Gypsy Tea Ballroom, a venue even smaller than the aforementioned Showbox. A suprise in this show as they played only 5 songs. But those 5 songs lasted for 2:45. That was long and very, very stunning. I saw them open for A Perfect Circle and I was glad the reason I was there was for TMV. They played only 2 songs, but they actually made the Tacoma Dome sound good. That never happens. APC just played stuff off their album verbatum. They sounded good, but there is a reason you go to see bands live. That is to hear something a little different. Its all about the experience and that is what TMV's biggest strength is. I will agree that especially Cedric's stage presence is a lot like Plant. I don't know. I am completely obsessed with this band. They are about the only band I listen to now.

P.S. According to PRP, TMV will release its new album tentatively (as always) "Frances the Mute" in November.

Re: The Mars Volta

If you like tmv listen to "at the drive in" and "sparta" theyre both related to tmv and they both rock just as much.

Re: The Mars Volta

This is a close tie with radiohead as my favorite current band. I can't get enough of "De-Loused". It's so effin' brilliant. Every song is just so freaking amazing, and the guitar playing is nothing short of excellent. My favorite song is, guess........Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt!!!!

Re: The Mars Volta

I love Televators.. and I'm glad that you agree about Cedric's stage presence reminding you of Plant, jduncan.. that was the very first thing i thought of when i saw him. I was just kind of.. I don't really know how to describe the feeling of watching him, it's terribly fascinating I suppose.. He looks like a very unblanced individual when he's onstage. Anyway... they rock lots and lots.. at the drive in is pretty good.. but not as good as TMV..

cheers

Re: The Mars Volta

The Mars Volta rock my fungus infected socks off.

I met one of them in Soho's Berwick Street. He told me to buy Nick Drake's Pink Moon (he has very good taste).

I can't wait for their next album, which Cedric promises "no one will like".
