It takes awhile to really dig it. It's like pure magic to me now, yet when I first got it I didn't really dig it.

I appreciate inaccessable music. Makes you work for it...and then in the end, it's a bigger payoff. The only problem is that people often get dissuaded by this; luckily, I can usually tell if something is worth getting into from the start.

Listened to it last night, I really like it, it's a lot more accessable than De-loused.

Re: The Mars Volta

I really want to get the vinyl that has Frances the Mute, the actual track on it. Apparently it's 77 minutes long and serves as a "decoder" for the rest of the album. For those of you who don't know, Joey refered me to a site called www.thecomatorium.com , that has some really interesting discussions on the albums and their meanings. I spent an hr yesterday reading stuff about people's interpretations of the cover alone. It's a great site.

cheers

Re: The Mars Volta

Hmmm. Title track? I was wondering about that, because of how it's sort of listed in the case under the CD. So it's a 77 min unreleased track? Very interesting!

Re: The Mars Volta

it's not a 77 minute unreleased track. It's 12ish minutes I think. The reason they didn't include it is because to do so would've required a double album, and the record company wouldn't let them do that.

How do u rank the songs off Frances?
Mine goes a something like this

1. Cassandra Geminni
2. Cygnus
3. Miranda
4. L'Via
5. The Widow

I haven't heard the title track yet. But if you buy the single The Widow, it's on that.

Re: The Mars Volta

My budget is so inclined, but my love for TMV isn't, I want the real deal, ya know?

Anyway, legspin.. seems you're right, the album is indeed 77 mins long (Though.. i have albums that are longer than that but didn't need to be split into a double.. so i don't see the problem.. but anyway) I got my mis information from an italian interview translated into english.. there's quite the possibility that that's where things went a bit pearshaped

this is the bit of the interview..

With Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez we're trying, layer by layer, to understand how The Mars Volta have painted their current own vision of the world inside Frances The Mute, because it is about this. Firstly, we already know that, mysteriously, the title track is not on the album. It will be released separately, maybe only as a vynil, and it will funcion as a "decoder track" for the whole album. Very original move, but thinking about it, isn't it true that each book has its own index? Anyway, why? First of all it wouldn't have even been on the album. It's 77 minutes long and instead of making it a double album, thing we wanted to avoid, we couldn't add anything more. When the album will be available it will be noticeable that its presence there would have been too much. The sequence of the pieces in this way reveals a story that has a personal inner harmony that can be understood without having had the experience of the decoder. That is the genesis of everything, the point where the album starts, but not absolutely necessary for listening or interpreting it.

As for my track order.. prolly something like this

Cassandra
Miranda
L'Via
The Widow
Cygnus

though.. it changes all the time

cheers

Re: The Mars Volta

If it's 77 minutes WITHOUT the title track, then it would be 10 minutes too long to fit on a single disc WITH the title track.

Re: The Mars Volta

I've seen some 90-minute CDs before, in fact, I think I may actually have gotten some stuff from a friend on one, but I'm not exactly how that's achieved.
